Put police, fire facility along Market Street
DEAR EDITOR:
I’m sure there will be lengthy discussions about a location for the new police and fire complex in Youngstown, and there seems to be a huge push by members of the administration for one place in particular.
The location that has been proposed on Wick Avenue doesn’t seem like a logical option. I believe the location of the former GE plant at the top of the Market Street bridge provides a more central location, with better access to I-680 and other major roadways in the city. The land has been vacant for so long that I’m sure acquiring it for a reasonable price shouldn’t be a problem.
The property that the GE plant was on has become an eyesore. I believe developing that property will help increase traffic to downtown also, as people don’t want to drive through areas that look rundown, and improving the Market Street corridor will go a long way to helping revitalize downtown.
Very few of the city’s leaders seem to have a strong business sense and it’s amazing how they seem to overlook the obvious. But maybe it’s because they are blinded by what only benefits them.
