Follow the money in Johnson hiring
DEAR EDITOR:
That adage, “Follow the money,” might be aptly applied to the YSU Board of Trustees appointment of Rep. Bill Johnson as the university’s 10th president.
A number of these politically-appointed trustees have, in the past, contributed thousands of dollars to this MAGA Republican. And the board’s current president Michael Peterson’s media interview? It was a joke as he attempted to glibly defend the so-called confidential (aka clandestine) vetting process.
Now that we have relocated one of the D.C. swamp occupants to Y-town, perhaps we should adopt Ed O’Neill’s suggestion to rename YSU as a satellite campus of Trump University. Wasn’t that educational enterprise a huge success!
And what a coup on Johnson’s part: from a congressional yearly salary of $174,000, together with all the tax-paid perks, to $410,000 in part subsidized by student and family indebtedness. As George Carlin once stated, “In America, anyone can become president, that’s the problem.”
Can’t wait for Johnson’s inauguration ceremony; it’ll be a hoot for sure.
TERRY CROGAN
Boardman
