DEAR EDITOR:
What is the endgame of the trustees of the Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning County for Poland's library? Was the plan to dismantle its history without an understanding what it means to the community?
Was there a failure to consult a designer or contractor with experience and expertise in historical preservation? "Refresh and spruce up" ignored the $1,800,000 in today's dollars donated by local residents to build the Poland Library. Philanthropic families filled it with museum quality art and sculpture that enhanced its interior and exterior, while linking it to the history of our Valley.
As board members, who are holders of the public trust, it is time now to "return & replace" everything that made this iconic building unique and important to the legacy donors and the community of Poland.
