Ukraine ‘proxy war’ vs. Russia is wrong

DEAR EDITOR:

The proxy war currently being fought by the United States using Ukraine against Russia is wrong. Ukraine is one of the most corrupt nations in Europe. Between the money laundering, bio-weapon labs and a tyrannical dictator like Volodymyr Zeleneskyy, Ukraine serves no benefit to U.S. As more evidence arises about then-Vice-President Joe Biden and son Hunter’s business dealings, it appears the cover-up is not only a Democrat problem, but an establishment and Republican problem too.

The Biden Administration is seeking billions more in aid for Ukraine and far too many “War Hawk” Republicans are on board. It fuels huge military industrial complex that former President Eisenhower warned us about. The most surprising part is why doesn’t Congress and the Biden Administration want accountability of the funds? How much of a ‘cut’ are politicians getting should be asked.

First, proxy wars often result in significant humanitarian crises. Innocent civilians bear the brunt of these conflicts, with their lives disrupted or destroyed. The U.S.-Russia proxy war, whether in Syria, Ukraine, or elsewhere, has led to countless civilian casualties, displacement and destruction of infrastructure. Suffering of ordinary people should never be used as means to advance political or strategic objectives.

Second, engaging in proxy wars can undermine a nation’s moral standing on international stage. The U.S., as a champion of democracy, human rights and international law, should be cautious not to compromise its principles by supporting proxies involved in questionable actions. This not only tarnishes the nation’s image but also undermines its ability to advocate for these values, globally.

Finally, and most important, proxy wars divert valuable resources from pressing domestic needs. Funds that could be used to address critical issues like health care, education and infrastructure are allocated to military efforts abroad.

The Biden Administration seems to care more about the war with Ukraine and climate change than it does about American people. Our borders are wide open; illegal drugs are taking over; and there is no punishment for breaking the laws, i.e. looting.

As Hawaii burns from rampant wildfires, Biden says he will give them a one-time payment of $700. This is a slap in the face to Hawaiians when you realize we are funding pensions of government personnel in Ukraine, and they are spending money freely, with no accountability. Something to consider is with all the money dumped into Ukraine, it averages about to $900 per Ukrainian citizen.

We need to take care of our own first!
