So many questions come to mind regarding Youngstown Police Lt. Flynn and his paid leave. The Vindicator can’t even get some of them answered. One comes to mind: Why was he paid for not doing his assigned job before he was put on leave? A lot of money changing hands with no known benefit to the taxpayers. Sounds like business as usual in Youngstown.

Eventually beautiful foliage becomes falling leaves. Cleaning up your yard does not mean raking leaves to back or sides of your property then into neighbors’ yards. Bag leaves or, where service exists, rake to curb area for municipal pickup. Be a good and respectful neighbor!

Voters must be aware of two statewide issues on the ballot. Issue 1 would override existing laws to allow denial of bail completely so violent offenders stay in jail. Educate yourself on Issue 2 and other ballot measures by going to Ballotpedia’s sample ballot or www.vote411.org. Also, look for the special statewide issues insert in The Vindicator. Educate yourself first, then go outand vote!

Austintown

The Vindicator polled if Biden was too old to run again and questioned: “Biden’s age cause for alarm?” It’s the wrong question. Age is not the culprit; mental capacity is. Biden shows signs of dementia: misuse of words, forgetfulness, “dementia shuffle,” aggressiveness when provoked. Being an RN for 35+ years and caring for many patients with dementia and having a mother with this terrible disease, it’s easy to recognize. Shame to medical staff for signing off on Biden’s health status.

Canfield

Stop and ask yourself are you better off now or two years ago? Look around. Do you feel safe? Do you approve of what schools are teaching our children? Are you concerned about illegal immigrants crossing the border into our country (terrorism, disease, sex trafficking, drugs)? Are you confident your children will not be harmed by drugs? Please read the policies of both parties before you vote. Your vote will determine the future for our country.

If the state-run morality police arresting women for lack of a head scarf in Iran seems a good idea, you also probably love Florida’s Office of Election Crimes and Security established by Florida’s governor. Iran has beaten offenders to death. So far, Florida only stole liberty of people who believed their state voter ID card entitled them vote. The state arrested them on voting fraud. A fascist disguised as a Mullah or as a conservative governor is still a fascist.

Most jobs President Joe Biden claims to have created are jobs to which people are returning that had been abandoned during COVID-19. However, Biden does deserve full credit for 87,000 new IRS jobs funded by the so-called Inflation Reduction Act, presumably raising revenue by going after underreported income. The nonpartisan Joint Committee on Taxation found 78 percent to 90 percent of the revenue likely would come from those making under $200,000. IRS has 4,487 guns, 5 million rounds of ammunition; maybe they expect resistance.

Canfield

In the 2020 presidential election, people voted on personality instead of policy. How did that work out? We have 40-year-high inflation, record-high gas prices, rising home interest rates, violence on the rise and millions of illegal immigrants and drugs coming across a wide open border. If you want to continue to suffer, elect radical Democrats. Republicans may not be perfect, but they do not believe in this radical agenda that is destroying this country.

What a shame that the writer of a previous Sound off from Austintown doesn’t get it. It is the Mill Creek MetroParks’ “decision makers” that are holding up the bike trail. They are relentless in their push to take private land from private citizens for public recreation. The bike trail should be located along the roadway as in many other areas across the United States.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, “Over 150 people die every day from overdoses related to synthetic opioids like fentanyl.” Such a sobering and horrifying statistic. Republican or Democrat, let’s work together to somehow try to put an end to this epidemic.

In answer to the question from the Canfield Sound off last week, “Do the loyal Trumpers in Youngstown know when the steel mills will reopen?” I grew up on Youngstown’s North Side and lived in Canfield for over 50 years. The answer could be when our southern borders are closed and we have a president who can run our country!

• Canfield

We all know Donald Trump gives rousing speeches that rile up the crowds. But what about his actions? What did he do to reopen the steel mills in the Valley? What alternative sources of employment did he bring to the Valley to keep our kids from leaving the state? What have his endorsed candidates done to create American jobs that provide a livable wage? Forget about his words. Focus on his actions.

Why do Republicans rant against President Biden releasing strategic oil reserves to help lower gasoline prices? In times of hyperinflation, spread worldwide as consequences of COVID-19 plus big oil profiting, Biden is making strategic use of emergency supplies and keeping U.S. inflation lower than in most of the world. Maybe the greediest of politicians will next tell Biden not to criticize Iran supplying drones for Russia’s war so Mideast oil suppliers won’t be offended. Sheesh! What’s their plan?

• Canfield

The high incidence of road rage can be attributed to lack of law enforcement. We all see excessive speeding, aggressive driving and other factors that impede proper traffic flow. We seldom see these drivers pulled over.

After-market loud pipes aren’t stopped. Paying a ticket would get their attention. Another peeve is when buying gas, many leave their vehicle blocking the pump to go in and buy their beer, cigarettes and lottery tickets. No one has any consideration for others.

We need new representatives to control spending, take charge of the border and put the true U.S. citizens first. Thinking of the welfare of those of us who have worked, paid our taxes and bled for this country, not illegal immigrants carrying disease and drugs without a care for the true “legal citizens.” Think about the buying

power of your dollars.

• Canfield

It’s comical hearing Democrats criticize Republicans for voting against the Inflation Reduction Act, American Rescue Plan, Chips Bill. In under two years, Democrats have spent nearly $5 trillion above what was needed for normal government operations. All we have to show is record high gas prices and inflation, hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants, 300 Americans dying daily from fentanyl, rising crime and 87,000 new IRS agents. I suspect Republicans are happy with their choice. Democrats, this disaster is all yours.

I am extremely frustrated by the reaction of the Youngstown Police handling of the dog attack. The first response should have been deadly force and not pepper spray or Taser. A man was being attacked by a vicious animal. If the shotgun was a better choice than the service revolver than that should have been used first. All the dogs should have been immediately put down and tested for rabies or other disease. They should not risk those dogs leaving the area and biting someone else.

Youngstown

Question to all the loyal Youngstown Trump supporters: Can you tell me when are the Youngstown steel mills going to reopen?

Canfield

What could we expect if Democrats are elected? We can be assured inflation will continue. More illegal drugs and undocumented people will cross our southern border. More Americans will die of fentanyl poisoning. More criminals will be released with no cash bail. Our public schools will continue to be social experiments instead of places of learning. More babies will be killed as a result of liberal abortion laws. Unfortunately, this is our future under Democratic leadership.

Poland

Unable to admit he was voted from office by more than 7 million votes, Donald Trump now wants to “trade” classified documents he previously refused to admit having stolen from the government for other documents legally held in the National Archive. He cannot “trade” what is not his. When will we be done with him?

Canfield

The midterm elections are critical to the direction our country will go. If Republicans take a majority, we will remain stagnant. The majority of republicans have voted against every effort to help average Americans and our communities including the Infrastructure, Covid Relief, Gun Safety Bills and the Inflation Reduction and Chip Science Acts. Republicans have historically failed to help average Americans. Inflation and high prices are a worldwide issue, not a Biden issue. Please vote Democrat.

Everyone running for office in America vows to fight China for jobs. HA! HA! HA! According to either party, it’s the same old song. China did not invade us and take our jobs. Corporate America sent jobs overseas. Airbags technology along with sensor technology for autos, steel manufacturing, consumer electronics and clothing all went overseas. When workers and labor union warned what would happen, no one listened. After the election, at least we get a break from the lies.

Youngstown

According to DOJ, some documents taken from Mar-a-Lago were required viewed only in secured government facilities. Does that mean a facility similar to Hillary Clinton’s totally unsecured computers or maybe in Jeff Foster’s unoccupied office in D.C. In addition to these travesties of justice, Merrick Garland is telling us how he is glued to the basic idea of what is right, fair and legal. What a lie! I guess it all comes down to what the definition of “is” is!

Mitch McConnell finally admitted Republican strategy. Back any Republican, no matter how unqualified, so he can manipulate them into voting his way. You think Herschel Walker will really research what he’s voting on? Of course, McConnell used the same strategy in the 2016 presidential election and it blew up in his face. Who is he really serving, his constituents or himself?

So now it seems as if there are two reasons for our wide open border. One, more Democratic votes, and two, for picking those crops. Both parties should be infuriated.

Are my eyes deceiving me or was Atty. Jeff Limbian reported to have told Councilwoman Basia Adamczak (regarding her request for ARP funds) the law department only prepares legislation and doesn’t determine its legality? Whose job is it? Maybe it’s time for Limbian to review his job description or for Mayor Tito Brown to consider a new law director. As an attorney for more than 40 years, I am regularly embarrassed by the antics of the mayor and law director in my home town.

Syndicated columnist Star Parker thinks the Thomases are patriots. Research of Justice Clarence Thomas’ opinions shows the damage he’s done to our country. He is why SCOTUS has such low public approval. Ginni Thomas has quirky political views and holds ludicrous, dangerously unhinged beliefs. She still believes the 2020 election was stolen. (It was not.) Why doesn’t Star Parker just say she believes the election was stolen? Enough of Star Parker articles.

I’m appalled by the soundoff about QAnon. The writer admitted not knowing about QAnon, but still wrote they cannot be that bad. Democracy is threatened by people believing lies and holding hate. We all have responsibility as voters to be informed by reading non-biased news articles, watching differing news broadcasts. Find the truth, listen to ideas different from your own and form opinions. Extremist groups don’t respect our democracy. If we continue this path, we won’t have democracy.

Folks should start being real and calling violence just that: violence (not gun violence, not anything but violence). It is folks being violent to others; the tool is not the issue. To say anything other than “violence” is is a deflection from the root cause. Those killed by other means are just as important.

This is in response to Trump’s reply to QAnon ” Is that a bad thing?” To anyone who believes in a made up, unfounded conspiracy theory that will trigger paranoia and violence, the answer is yes, it’s a very bad thing!

The GOP naturally, given their office holders’ experience ignoring their oaths and then lying about doing so, doubles down that Herschel Walker’s serial philandering and lying are not disqualifying for his Senate campaign. I wonder if they are disappointed they can’t raise similar issues with LGBTQ candidates who never get pregnant and who are denied marital recognition.

• Canfield

If you want women to have their bodies owned by government, then vote Republican. If you want Social Security eliminated or government support for victims of floods, tornadoes, forest fires and other national disasters eliminated, vote Republican. If you want schools to teach only rose-colored history, vote Republican. If you want tax cuts only for billionaires and millionaires, or for our communities to continue being flooded with guns, vote Republican. If this is what you call freedom, vote Republican.

Joe Biden should wake up and open oil leases, well drilling, offshore oil production and restart the XL pipeline. Send the message we aren’t dependent and will put people back to work. Replace the million jobs he lost us. Help everyone by getting inflation under control. Or is that too much to ask since we are taxpayers and not illegal immigrants? Help working people of this country, instead of trying to figure out how to tax them.

• With all the disagreements about the ARP funds, it seems Youngstown council treats each ward as a separate city of itself. All needs may be different, but y’all should be able to unite and speak about the city’s needs with a united voice. This should not be a “me-me” conversation. It should be one that is good for the whole of all wards and thereby benefits our city as a whole.

• Girard City council is considering banning smoking in parks. The Vindicator argues parks are for all people, what will come next? Banning sugary drinks and fatty foods? Well, parks are for all people, or at least considerate ones. Those who smoke next to children, don’t pick up after their pets, pick flowers, etc., must be monitored. Sugary drinks and fatty foods? I’m not affected by those. Smoking, however, does affect me and others.

With an additional three-mile acquisition, Ohio would become the only state in the country with a bike trail starting at Lake Erie on the northern border and ending at the Ohio River on its southern border. I hope the court makes the right decision.

• Mill Creek MetroParks board’s obsessive pursuit of eminent domain and its frivolous waste of taxpayer money in the bid to acquire land for a bike trail needs to stop immediately. Their appeal to the Ohio Supreme Court should be withdrawn and wasteful spending on legal fees halted. Every one of the board members who support this should be removed by whatever means necessary, or Mill Creek MetroParks should be defunded. Enough is enough.

• The Vindicator reported student loan forgiveness costs taxpayers $400 billion! How many votes did the administration buy with $400B? Remember Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, Tim Ryan and others said the plan did not go far enough! Add millions of illegal immigrants crossing our border, COVID-19 payments and other entitlements causing people to prefer staying at home in lieu of working, and more votes were bought. The former people’s party wants to guarantee perpetual Democrat Power in government. Wake up people.

This is another baseless attempt liberals to besmirch the Trump name, dating back to 2015. It is another ill-conceived Trump crime as per a Democratic Attorney General. I see this lame attempt as nothing but smoke and mirrors, the Democratic fall back. MAGA

• Vote for Democrats if you believe the Afghan withdrawal was successful, our border is secure, crime is under control, our economy is strong, Hunter’s laptop is Russian misinformation, the Inflation Reduction Act will reduce inflation and abortion should have no limits. Vote for Democrats if you think semi-fascism is putting our country first, wanting strong borders and military, law and order, small more accountable and less intrusive government.
