Heroes are expected to display ethics

DEAR EDITOR:

After raising our American flag on Memorial Day, I read, again, a letter from Rol Curry saved from the May 30 Vindicator. Curry concisely described characteristics of heroes: “Heroes are expected to have ethics, integrity, truthfulness and do the right thing — at least part of the time…” wrote Curry, very appropriately for this day.

The letter also listed a few of the low points of the antithesis of a hero — the 45th occupant of the White House — who Curry accurately introduced as “…a self-serving, authoritarian president who did so much for few and so little for many.” Hoorah, Curry, I hope to shake your hand some day.

Democracy needs opposing viewpoints to function well. We need decisions born of thoughtful policy arguments among Republicans, Democrats and independents that set the best course forward for America. We don’t need a spineless cult of personality, led by willfully ignorant worshippers in Congress, who are too afraid for their political posts to call a liar a liar, let alone investigate the causes of insurrection by the self-proclaimed “patriots” who the liar incited.

God bless our country and it’s day-to-day heroes who “do the right thing — at least part of the time ” as we strive for all of the time.
