True patriots don’t suppress voting

DEAR EDITOR:

The media reported on March 24 that GOP leader Gale E. Measel Jr. said the Patriot Caucus, a splinter group, won’t split the Republican Party, but could help each other.

A patriot is a person who loves, supports and defends his or her country and its interests. To me, that would be living under and adhering to the Constitution of the United States of America, our guaranteed Bill of Rights for all American citizens and the rule of law, not attacking and invading the U.S. Capitol building to invalidate the Electoral College votes for Joe Biden, which caused one Capitol policeman to die and injured hundreds.

This is Donald Trump’s Republican Party, otherwise known as the Patriot Caucus.

Guest speaker Rick Saccone, former Republican state representative, who lost his seat in 2018, said our country is in peril; as you know, we have to stand together and take back our country.

Who is Saccone talking about? Could it be the more than 80 million Native American, African, Hispanic, Asian and white folks that voted for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris?

On Jan. 6, Saccone posted on social media, “We are storming the capitol. Our vanguard has broken thru the barricades. We will save this nation. Are u with me?”

Trump went home, and so did Saccone.

What GOP leaders should be talking about is how in four years Trump destroyed the Republican Party with his continuous lies about hoaxes, fake news, rigged elections and voter fraud.

In 2018, he lost the House, 2020 the White House and in 2021, the Senate. Republicans had 62 law cases in front of federal, state and Supreme Court Justices, that Trump lost claiming voter fraud. The majority of these judges and justices were appointed by Republican Presidents G.W. Bush and Trump.

Can you imagine that? From what I’ve read, watched and seen, this Republican Patriot Caucus is what’s left of Trump’s base, and they’re recruiting the Republican’s big lie, voter fraud, and now trying to suppress the right to vote. That’s not the true definition of a patriot.

Remember this in November 2022 and 2024 when you vote for a United States of America.
