Republicans’ response is too little, too late
DEAR EDITOR:
Like U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan, D-Howland, I am unimpressed with Republicans’ too-little, too-late disavowal of the attack on our nation’s Capitol.
For four years, Republicans aided and abetted a wannabe dictator. For four years, Republicans enabled and nurtured his followers. For four years, Republicans helped their leader propagate the kinds of ludicrous conspiracy theories that motivate domestic terror.
And now, in an act of breathtaking hypocrisy, Republicans are pretending they disapprove of it all. Baloney!
The fact is that all Republicans who supported Trump, including U.S. Sen. Rob Portman, R-Ohio, and especially U.S. Rep. Bill Johnson, R-Marietta, are to blame for bringing this stain upon our nation. They were warned about how dangerous and unhinged Trump is, but they chose to enable him anyway.
Why? Tax breaks for billionaires, of course. Republicans got $2 trillion in tax breaks for their billionaire friends. The rest of us got a violent insurrection and a bungled pandemic response that resulted in hundreds of thousands of dead Americans.
Good job, Republicans!
