How global health issues affect all of us

DEAR EDITOR:

On May 21, 2020, a bill was introduced to U.S. Senate. That bill is the Global Health Security and Diplomacy Act of 2020.

Some may be confused about why that is even important to us when we have so much going on domestically. This bill, co-sponsored by Sen. Rob Portman, R-Ohio, is to advance the global health security and diplomacy objectives of the United States, to partner with countries to create more resilient health systems and better supply chains of resources so that when diseases such as COVID-19 enter our atmosphere, it doesn’t take out half the planet.

Sen. Portman knows how important global health is especially to us here in Trumbull County. Our international trade depends on it and supports over 1 million jobs locally.

We have to be concerned about health globally as it impacts us here too. That’s why I say thank you to Sen. Portman.
