We’re at a crossroads in the stay-strong-for-tariffs battle that could be decided by the White House hardliner’s policies to even the lopsided trade deficit or by the loon protesters in the streets. Since the U.S. already succumbed to China’s, “You win now but we’ll win later” trade game, the ball to reverse the trend — with Trump — is now in our court. Either hang tough or let China continue to economically hang us by the balls.

“I will end the Ukraine war in 24 hours,” so stated the self proclaimed genius Donald Trump. Remember that? Seems all of his Republican minions have suddenly gone blind, deaf and dumb. Time to end the reign of this liar. Impeach Trump and vote all of the current Republicans out next year.

The Vindicator’s editor wrote that the normal response to an invitation to the White House should be a show of respect and appreciation. Likewise, as Judge J. Harvie Wilkinson recently quipped, it is vital to the American ethos that the executive branch should respect and appreciate the rule of law. If we accept certain behaviors without question there is no civilized society.

It’s time the U.S. reviewed its unquestioning support of Israel. The problem in the Middle East is Israel. For decades and really for generations, there has been a two-state solution to the conflict but Israel has refused to consider a Palestine state. This is not antisemitism. This is a nation / state issue. Israel has never recognized the right of Palestine to exist. Now our president has used antisemitism to silence any dissent in the US.

A saint walked among us, tirelessly advocating for the poor and the disenfranchised all over the world, eschewing pomp and praise by living simply, giving of himself to all people regardless of race, color, social standings. Humility, humanity and compassion for all; his name was Francis. God bless him.

If doubling down on malicious incompetence is a high crime or proof of insanity, Donald Trump would be wearing a jumpsuit more orange than his spray tan and tighter than his golf shirt. Ditto for his Clown Cabinet. Vote them and their elected enablers out.

Forty-seven’s tactics are similar to those of mobsters, oligarchs, and the KKK. They create a bogeyman and blame everything wrong on them. With Trump, it’s minorities, DEI, immigrants and transgender. Then he used cruelty against them by ostracizing them from society. Then he threatened anyone who disagrees with anything he says or does until all of his supporters are yes men. If you don’t believe me ask Timothy Hale, Ed Martin, Steven Miller, Kanye and Enrique Tarrio.

If not for the fragile ego of an unerring narcissist bully, a simple phone call would return Kilmar Abrego Garcia to face justice in the U.S.. Our felon in chief needs only to say “President Bukele, please return Mr. Garcia or I may forget that $6 million”(your tax money) “I owe you.” Garcia would be on a plane within the hour. That way, anyone, even those wearing a red hat or waving a Trump as Rambo banner, may have a prison space available should they displease Himself.

Nearly 250 years ago our Founding Fathers threw off a foreign government, which taxed us at will and governed at the pleasure of a king’s desires. We now have a pompous would-be-king taxing us into poverty to support wealthy “royals” even as he ignores the law to suit himself and persecute “commoners.” Vote to throw off anyone supporting this abusive aberration.

I am so tired of hearing ‘conservative’ vs ‘progressive/liberal.’ These labels are spewing hate on both sides of the aisle and neither label is accurate. We are all a mix of liberal and conservative depending on the topic at hand. It’s time to put down our devices and start talking to our neighbors, co-workers and family. Get to know them as people, not enemies, and find ways to solve problems together. Too much is at stake to continue the current approach.

In response to the person from Canfield who feels Democrats spew hate. Please do not confuse facts with hate: Fact: Stock market lost $10 trillion in value. Fact: People lost thousands in their 401k. Fact: Tariffs will further increase prices. Fact: Fear of losing Medicare and Social Security. Fact: People are afraid that they won’t be able to pay their bills or put food on the table. I didn’t see any signs of intelligence in your post either. I looked.

Study The Vindicator, and you’ll find objective truths in apparent, one-sided columns. Judge Napolitano, who despises progressivism, says Russia today is great, its invasion of Ukraine is good and compliments Trump for knowing that; he also said the president has no business trampling anyone’s rights by deporting them without due process. Rich Lowry, who hates the liberals and sucks up to right-wingers, also says Trump’s declaration of trade deficits as international emergency in order to impose his tariffs is a farce.

A recent letter to editor proposed a “grand hotel” be built with taxpayer funds to accommodate all 535 members of Congress. Aside from the cost of such an endeavor, there is a massive security risk for such a facility. The writer also proposed proxy voting. We don’t elect members of Congress to hand off their responsibilities to someone else because traveling to and living in D.C. is inconvenient and expensive. They are being paid to be in Washington D.C. to do their job. If it’s too much for them, they should resign or not run for reelection.

I pay tax dollars to house Mahoning County criminals, not federal prisoners who should be in FEDERAL prisons. This is going to bankrupt our county and put our own people in danger by releasing local criminals that we WANT behind bars. And when immigrants are stuck in our jail with lawyers, they are not going anywhere and our county won’t have bed space for our own. Why are they not on planes back to their countries? Shame on you Jerry Greene, shame on you! You’re a traitor to the party that made you and now a traitor to our taxpayers.
• Youngstown
Did Jerry Greene offer up our taxpayers funded jail to house these immigrants? Whose idea was it to do this horrible deed to Mahoning County? Our criminal justice system in this town is already overloaded with criminals FROM our county. I did not pass a tax to take in immigrants! We have limited space for our own. Just whose brilliant idea was this? And if it was the top sheriff who made a decision for our whole county to take immigrants from Detroit and Cleveland, then he needs to be investigated.
• Youngstown
Yes, let’s restart our capital punishment program. Some say it’s not a deterrent, but it ends recidivism! We cannot afford to keep criminals on death row. We are nearing 40 years that Danny Hill has sucked the system. The firing squads have an excellent record and are not costly. Let’s go with that! We should build schools and not prisons.

It’s nice that Walz can scamper about other states under the guise of “town hall” meetings. I don’t suppose there are any problems to be addressed in Minnesota, the state paying for his absence. He may have missed a town hall there. Another high-priced public servant not at his job.

If we place a tariff (tax) on a car to prevent Canada from selling us a cheaper car, all cars sold in America will cost more regardless of how many plants we build unless we figure out how to make them cheaper. In addition, plants aren’t built in a day. They take years to plan, build and train people before becoming price competitive. The result of these tariffs will be increased inflation, a collapse of businesses because buying power will tumble and layoffs. A recession or depression looms while Trump (Nero) plays golf.

Tim Walz’s visit is deja vu with the Dems “panting and fawning” over Michael Avenatti. Misguided crowds out unwelcome better candidates they shun. And, their ubiquitous predatory politicians who disdain common sense, fiscal responsibility, transparency and competence still rule. Blue-collar, producer-class, tax-paying former followers who had enough of their nonsense and grift last election are not likely to return with this imaging.

With the new Ohio law that prohibits the use of radar cameras by police departments, the Liberty PD will now have to stop hiding on the Route 11 overpass and mailing unsuspecting motorists’ speeding tickets. They can still enforce the law the old-fashioned way, by actually sitting on the highway with radar and stopping speeding vehicles. This method of enforcement also has the added benefit of actually slowing down the motoring public.

Trump repeatedly stated “On day 1, competence and common sense” will be restored to the federal government. Instead, we have seen nothing but chaos and nonsense on a daily basis. Slashes to competent workforces in federal agencies have affected our national security, health, and pocketbooks. Why are so many anti-Trump people utilizing this forum? Likely not because we are radical lefts, but rather moderates who are voicing concerns about how Trump’s agenda is about Making Trump Great Again, not America.

I think Trump’s tariffs will depress the market price of solid stocks so far that wealthy margin account holders will buy in. Trump will signal these people just prior to lifting his tariffs causing increasing stock prices, which the billionaire holders of margin -borrowed shares will short sell for more than they paid thus making a tidy profit before a margin call is made on their loaned shares. Stock price manipulation at its finest.

Foul play: the hens voted for the fox to guard the chicken coop. They felt they needed someone strong to protect them. Then, every few nights, another chicken mysteriously disappears from the coop. Some hens didn’t notice. Others wondered if their friends had gone on vacation. A few began to suspect the fox, but said nothing, not wanting to be called alarmists. Finally, no hens were left. April Fool’s Day has passed, but Star Parker doesn’t know it. She compares the National Education Association to the KKK! Parker says “Shut down the Department of Education and send every child a $1,500 voucher to attend private school,” except the average tuition is $15,000 a year. A big part of the DOE is providing funding to special-needs students and providing access to schools for handicapped students. Free school lunches and transportation are also part of their mission. Shutting down the DOE and NEA will hurt low-income families the most. I suspect Parker is on the take.

We keep hearing “short term pain for long term gain.” Taking on extra workloads temporarily, packing lunches instead of buying, conserving electricity, eliminating frivolous purchases constitutes short-term pain. Firing productive essential workers and cutting food supplies to schools and families is simply cruel treatment of fellow human beings. There is no way you can spin taking away one’s ability to pay rent and buy food as a sacrifice for the common good. No decent lawmaker would allow this.

I am very concerned with SB 1 being signed by the governor. In addition to harming faculty rights, the new law makes schools promise not to influence student views on controversial topics. Are not students of college age able to hear both sides of an issue and decide for themselves what to believe? How is limiting what information students are allowed to hear beneficial to their learning? A government that limits information is not one that is promoting freedom. Think about it.
