If I’m correctly reading Friday’s Vindicator article on Youngstown’s misspent money from water, wastewater and environmental sanitation funds for economic development, Mayor Brown says now Youngstown won’t “have to ask the taxpayers to fix those bad habits” from previous administrations that used restricted funds for economic development. But wasn’t spending a portion ($28,758) of those funds to buy an SUV for Mayor Brown also a bad habit?

As an investor in the ill-fated Girard Lake / dam purchase from 1995, I eagerly await its proposed sale. Purchase of this white elephant was financed by Girard water users. As such, I eagerly anticipate my speedy refund check for all principal and interest I paid as soon as the city closes on this sale.

Thank you to Youngstown Law Director Jeff Limbian for his dedicated service to the city. Be it murders, crime, blight, legal matters, he is the face people of Youngstown see. He can do something no other candidate for mayor can do. He can run on his record. Please let Carl Davis do his job. He’s the right man and a good man.

I’m tired of people claiming to be “pro-life” who aren’t. They are “pro-fetus” or “pro-birth.” After birth, they couldn’t care less what happens! Most won’t adopt and support cuts to social and welfare programs. What kind of “life” is in store for children they supposedly cared so much about? They never give any thought to funding and systems needed for the child to have a life worth living. Issues like that aren’t solved with “thoughts and prayers!”

Orchid to Kim Chiclowe, owner of “Color Me Crazy” salon in Struthers, for giving opportunity and support to young entrepreneurs. Josie Flora, who runs “Nails by Josie,” was Kim’s first entrepreneur addition. Kim’s dedication to her craft and support of young stylists continued by adding Delani Rae Haas of “Twisted Scizzorz” to her salon. We all become successful when supporting each other.

Churchill scolded his predecessor as prime minister of England for appeasing Adolf Hitler with the Munich treaty saying, “You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war.” A year later, Hitler declared war on his appeasers. GOP, you have dishonored yourselves and your country by appeasing the great lying fascist. Find your courage. Resist, and consign him to history’s trash heap before he declares another attack on our country.

It would be nice if people would acknowledge with a “thank you” or “OK” when they receive a text or email with information they requested. The sender took the time to send it; the receiver should let them know they have it. Thank you for taking the time to read this comment.

Another tragic police shooting of a young black man occurred. He was stopped. Police found he had a warrant. He started fighting with police and was shot. They say the officer grabbed her gun instead of her Taser. She was incompetent, if this is true. One question is never answered — why do young black men fight instead of complying? This man would be alive if he complied. If police violated his civil rights, many attorneys would take the case.

There has been much talk about renaming Mosquito Lake after politicians or deceased people. Why not sell the naming rights as they do for baseball stadiums? Some of the great insect repellent companies might be interested. It could be called Cutter Lake or Deet Mosquito Lake. How about Off! Lake? The money could be used to encourage tourism.

Hubbard

I agree that Mosquito Lake should be renamed after former President Donald Trump. How about “Liar’s Lake?”

Canfield

It’s amazing how mainstream media howled when they thought President Trump lied, but they say nothing about Joe Biden and the Democrats. Biden’s done nothing but lie for three months. He lied about COVID-19 relief, with only 9 percent for virus problems. He’s lying about the infrastructure bill that some say contains 5 percent for infrastructure. He’s lying about Georgia’s voting bill. Even the Washington Post said he lied. It must be OK because Biden is a “good guy.”

Police handle combative suspects every day; seldom do suspects end up dead. In the street, officers must always win because a peaceful society ceases to exist when lawbreakers do. That said, a cop needlessly kneeling on a handcuffed, proned-out suspect’s neck for 9-plus minutes, thus killing him, is responsible for a needless death. Cal Thomas’ April 7 column demonstrated shaving his moustache did not improve his vision of what has been shown of George Floyd’s killing.

Canfield

Cal Thomas made another attempt to blame victims. I’ve watched the Minnesota police chief, the longest tenured officer, Chauvin’s training officer, an EMT who begged Chauvin to let her help, witnesses, medical experts, etc. all testify to excessive force. When Cal gets pulled over, I expect he’ll welcome being handcuffed, laid on his stomach in the street and have officers kneel on his neck for 9 minutes. Cal wants us to believe what he says, not our lying eyes.

Campbell

Do you remember Trayvon Martin, shot by George Zimmerman, after Martin attacked Zimmerman? Or Michael Brown, shot by police Officer Darren Wilson, after Brown beat a store owner and stole smokes, then tried to take Officer Wilson’s gun? How about Jacob Blake, who, after beating his girlfriend, was shot by police when he attempted to get a knife, despite repeated police orders to stop? All were “tried” in the news media and “convicted” before trial.

Canfield

A congressional bill is quite a misnomer. It’s called “For the People Act.” It’s publicized as a voting rights bill, but is more accurately a Democratic power grab. In his column, Robert Reich supported the bill. That’s hardly a surprise. He, among many Democrats, have no use for voter ID laws. You can’t even get a Giant Eagle store card without ID, yet these politicians think elections can be legitimately held without voter verification. How dangerous for our republic.

Poland

The Washington Post, a liberal newspaper, gave Joe Biden four Pinocchios for his comments on Georgia’s new voting laws. Someone should tell Biden his home state of Delaware has stricter laws than Georgia. Biden’s new motto seems to be, “If at first you don’t succeed, lie, lie again.” You Dems voted for him.

The news shows large convention sites sprawling with distanced chairs and sanitizing stations. Not our experience on Belmont. Packed shoulder to shoulder in waiting room chairs, admonished by staff only for holding open the set of double glass doors because this was “fire code violation.” My comment at intake was met with “Well, we stack ’em up and move ’em through.” Enough said. Where did the mayor get his shot? And I have to go back there again?

Austintown

I enjoyed Chamber President Guy Coviello’s article about the thriving oil / gas industry in the Valley. This energy sector has flourished under the “America First” agenda into gaining energy independence for the first time in this country’s history. How unfortunate the current administration is destroying all these gains by banning fracking, closing XL and Dakota pipelines and putting Americans out of work, including those in this Valley. Back to “America last” and $4+ per gallon gasoline.

Youngstown

I just read that the new editor of Teen Vogue was fired over tweets she made as a teenager. I say this to these cancel culture heroes: He who is without sin cast the first stone.

I enjoy watching the local news and weather. Unfortunately, the weather people drive me crazy. They always mispronounce the word temperature. It has an r in it, and you are supposed to say it. So, phonetically, it is , temp-ra-chur, not temp-a-chur. Please, people, pronounce the word correctly. I would so much appreciate it.

Estimates state illegal immigrants cost us $250B-plus annually. Our nation is at a crossroads. One path leads to accommodate the costly illegal alien problem. The other sends a clear signal that illegal migration will no longer be tolerated. By choosing the correct path, this nation will reduce a major fiscal burden on U.S. taxpayers and make strides in providing greater opportunity to today’s unemployed and LEGAL citizens. I fear this administration’s choice of open borders.

Youngstown

“Dark days are ahead of us” according to Joe Biden. But make no mistake, Joe pulled a bait and switch on those who voted for him. Yes, dark days are ahead. No jobs, high taxes, no oil drilling, no fracking, high gas prices, high food prices. Yeah, this should bring all of us together.

Girard

Columnist Star Parker omits facts to twist truth. Her column about the border crisis ignored root causes of a volcano, seven-year drought and increase in hurricanes. They devastated the northern triangle, increasing hunger, starvation and gangs. Trump stopped funding the area, making it worse and increased surge. Then, he could say his wall protected Americans from a surge of ‘the other.’ No wall will stop parents from protecting their children. Nothing stopped Europeans when they came to this country.

China has 1.3 billion people. It is ascending economically and militarily, 2.3 million-member armed forces and 1.1 million reserves compared to our 1.4 million active military. They excel in cyberespionage and space technology. China, a belligerent, godless country plans planet domination. The NBA, big tech, global enterprises and elites see China as a “gold mine” and ignore China’s human atrocities. China,

not climate, is our existential threat. We must confront China or start teaching Mandarin in school.

Canfield

What a disgrace the World Health Organization is. A year later to tell us the COVID-19 virus probably came from an animal at a wet market is not correct; to be such a good spreader this virus was manipulated to be made stronger, they do it all the time in a lab , which had an accident.
