List of county’s remarkable things goes on

Undoubtedly, few local residents would not recognize that Youngstown State University, the Canfield Fair and the Butler Institute of American Art are remarkable parts of Mahoning County.

But what about the amazing history of classic and antique cars exhibited here in places like Canfield’s TP Tools or Snyder Specialty Cars Museum in New Springfield? And what about the character of cool Youngstown neighborhoods that grew up around deep ethnic roots? There’s also the National Shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon, Camp Stambaugh, a favorite for Scouts and new economic development, much of it guided along with help from the Youngstown Warren Regional Chamber.

The Mahoning Valley and this county have so much to celebrate. That is why we are christening our first Vindicator edition of the Tribune Chronicle with a massive list of remarkable items about Mahoning County.

Often, communities will get down on themselves, dwelling on the negative or looking backward rather than forward.

Certainly, our history is what shapes us, and that’s why some of our list of 100 remarkable things that appears on Page A1 today does outline historical places and events.

But it also looks into the present and future.

We wanted to start off this new era of news coverage on a positive note. We wanted to visit the positives of this area that are inviting to residents and to visitors. The fact is, the list could go on and on.

It’s amazing to us, really, to consider all the things that we couldn’t include on the list simply because we’ve run out of space.

Now we hope you will help us to complete it by emailing us at editorial@tribtoday.com with more of this area’s offerings.

We look forward to reading your suggestions and over time, we hope to share your thoughts by publishing intermittent feature stories on them and on the items already appear on the list.

After all, these attractions and noteworthy items have helped to make our Valley and this county so unique.
