“People … not a big fan.” A friend and I stumbled upon T-shirts featuring that phrase, and we couldn’t resist buying them. Mine eventually disappeared. I believe it suffered the same fate as my favorite red T-shirt paying homage to President Ronald Reagan. By “fate,” I mean that ...
It could be your health, watching your children grow and reach their potential or the fun times you had with friends when you were young. There are many things we experience as we age that we wish we could do again. An important one for me was always being around my extended family during the holidays. There was nothing like Thanksgiving — always at my grandmother’s tiny home in Rock Creek — because it was the one time of year when most of us were together in one place. Later, after my grandmother died, the annual feast was at my parents’ home. Then, after a family of our ...
A day after Donald Trump’s improbable comeback from political oblivion, let’s look at how he did it. Two things: First, was it really improbable? Second, did he do it all by himself or did the opposition party assist in handing Trump — perhaps the most polarizing figure in American political history — another term in the White House? The answer to both questions seems like a hard “no,” especially when you consider some aspects of the Kamala Harris-Tim Walz campaign. The Democrats took the worst parts of their previous two presidential candidates, applied them to Harris ...
“Only two weeks to go, and then it’s over.” “Only a week to go, and then it’s over.” “Only a few days to go, and then it’s over.” That’s what I keep hearing from a lot of well-intentioned people as we approach Tuesday, Nov. 5. I hate to be a buzz killer, but if we’ve learned nothing from American politics in recent years, it is that it’s never over. I appreciate the wishful thinking of the overly optimistic folks, but what makes them think that we’re all going to wake up on Wednesday, Nov. 6, with smiles on our faces, a bounce in our steps and ...
Remember the last time you felt that no matter which presidential candidate won the election, things were going to be OK in your little corner of the world? It’s been a while, hasn’t it? We’re just over two weeks away from the Nov. 5 election and try as I might, I’m still a bit queasy about the prospect of either Donald Trump or Kamala Harris becoming the 47th president of the United States. Are these really the best candidates America can produce? I say no. The Republicans have signed on a third try with Trump. We know what we’re getting with him. He’s often crass ...
We’re less than a month from Election Day and if you’re like me, Nov. 5 can’t get here fast enough. That’s mostly because of the rancor surrounding the presidential election. Former President Donald Trump or current Vice President Kamala Harris? Are these two really the best we ...
