Patricia Weickenand

YOUNGSTOWN - Patricia "Tish" Weickenand, a lifelong resident of the Youngstown area, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026, at the age of 96.

Pat, as she was also called, was born in Youngstown in 1930, the child of Charles Toy and Helen Fowler Toy. She grew up in Youngstown and attended Ursuline High School.

Tish went to nursing school directly after finishing high school, graduating from St. Elizabeth Hospital School of Nursing in 1951, becoming an RN. She married Walter Weickenand in 1953. Tish returned to school in 1979 at Youngstown State University, receiving a Bachelor of Nursing degree. Tish worked as a nurse, then later as a supervising nurse, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital for more than 40 years before retiring in 1994.

Pat was involved in volunteer and charity work for many years after her retirement. She was an active participant in St. Elizabeth's Auxiliary, she volunteered with the Joanie Abdu Breast Care Center, and she was also a member of the Youngstown Council of Catholic Nurses. She was a faithful parishioner at St. Rose for decades.

Tish liked to travel, making a couple trips to Europe. But she also loved to go to Cancun, spending a week in February with close friends there for many years. She was a fan of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team, traveling every year with friends to watch her team take on Navy. In her retirement, Pat enjoyed watching favorite shows like "Murder, She Wrote," “Monk,” and "Diagnosis Murder," as well as many movies on the Hallmark Channel.

Tish was also close to her sister Mary Jean's family in San Diego, frequently spending time there during the summers. Tish was proud to be recognized by the Nurse Honor Guard of Eastern Ohio in June 2026.

Pat is survived by her nephews and nieces, James, Marianne, Joseph, John and Margaret.

Her husband, Walter, passed away in 1985, and her sister, Mary Jean Wainio, passed away in 1996.

The funeral Mass will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2026, at St. Rose Catholic Church in Girard.

She will be buried next to her husband, Walter, in Calvary Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the staff of Liberty Health Care Center, who took good care of her for the past year of her life.
