IRVINE, California - With hearts full of both gratitude and sorrow, we announce the passing of Nick Richard Rubbo, beloved brother to six, uncle to four and friend to countless, on Monday, Oct. 19, 2026, in Irvine, California.
Born April 20, 1955, in Youngstown, a son of the late Mario and Mae Phillips Rubbo, Nick served as a dedicated police officer, investigator and sergeant in Ontario and Santa Ana, California, for 30 years. He built a life anchored in hard work, honesty and service to the communities he loved so much.
Nick was a true friend to those who knew him and one all could count on, evident in his longstanding, deep friendships and family relationships. He was everyone’s favorite family member.
A golfer, cyclist, runner, weightlifter, hiker and someone who was always on the move, Nick exuded positive energy and shared it willingly to lift up those around him.
In addition to contributing greatly to the lives of others, Nick maintained a unique sense of independence throughout his own life. He followed his own path and pursued interests, activities and conversations with a distinctiveness that will be profoundly missed.
Nick leaves behind a legacy his family will strive to carry on by giving more than they take and leaving places better than they found them.
Family and friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, 2026, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown, where a funeral service will take place at 1 p.m.
Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery in Austintown.
