HUBBARD - Harry Lee Gunter left this life on Saturday, Oct. 31, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
It is a pretty good bet that moments later, the many friends who preceded him in death were waiting, tackle boxes in hand, for Harry to take them fishing.
He was born March 1, 1941, in Flushing, Ohio, to Robert Neal and Sarah Riley Gunter.
To every avid angler, Harry Lee Gunter's professional life was a dream come true. As National Marketing Director for Eppinger Manufacturing and Regional Sales Manager with Lowrance Electronics, he was often found on the water with a rod in hand. Whether it was trolling the Great Lakes for walleye, navigating the Niagara River for steelhead, or chasing record size lake trout on Great Bear Lake in the Arctic Circle, both jobs came with great perks.
But with those perks also came incredible demands. The travel that often took him away from home for weeks at a time was the hardest part. Because there was only one thing Harry loved more than fishing - his family.
In 1962, on March 19, he married the love of his life, Penelope Jean Michael. The following year, son Robert Michael was born, and 13 months later, daughter Debra Jean came into the world. No woman could ever ask for a better husband; no child, a better father. He was a caring, giving and all-around good-hearted man who made sure that those dearest to him never wanted for anything.
In addition to his wife and children, left to cherish his memory are grandchildren Carrie (Jeff) Copeland, Kelly Gunter, Jimmy Paris, Brittany Gunter, and Maggie Paris, as well as numerous great-grandchildren.
Family and friends may call from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 7, 2026, at the Kelley-Cummins Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at noon.
The family would like to thank the staff at Mercy Health, Hospice of the Valley, and Addison Nursing Home for their compassionate care.
