GREEN TOWNSHIP - David J. Hull passed away at his Green Township home on Thursday, Oct. 29, 2026, at the age of 90 years.
David was born on Feb. 16, 1936, to Doris and Jerome Hull of Canfield, graduating from Canfield High School in the class of 1954.
He was part of the 1953 state semi-finalist basketball team for the Cardinals, where his future wife of 65 years, Phyllis Belle Schafer, was a cheerleader on the sidelines.
Like six generations before him, David became the proprietor of his beloved White House Fruit Farm, working alongside his parents, wife, and his children and grandchildren.
David was a prominent area fruit and vegetable grower, serving on the board of the Salem Fruit Growers and as a member of the Ohio Fruit Growers Society. David was an early pioneer of retail farm marketing, and he was responsible for converting the farm's 1881 bank barn into one of the Mahoning Valley's premier farm markets with a full-service bakery and deli operation. His greatest love, however, was growing apples and managing his orchard. His family recognizes him as among the hardest working men of his generation, an effort and ethic he maintained until the end of his life.
David was a member of the Canfield United Methodist Church and is survived by his brothers, Dr. Franklin Hull and Dr. Jerome Hull; four children, Debbie (John) Pifer, David (Chris) Hull, Wendy (Bob) Lynn, and Dan (Kim) Hull; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis, and siblings Donna, Herbert, Edward, Woodrow, Walter and Mary Ellen.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 4, and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 5, at the Canfield United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held directly after the Thursday calling hours.
The family requests that donations be made to Canfield United Methodist Church in lieu of flowers.
