William L. Stanton Sr. 1941-2026

William Stanton

POLAND - William Lee Stanton Sr., 85, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2026, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Known to his family and friends as "Bill," he was born on July 27, 1941, in Youngstown, a son of the late Norman and Catherine Hart Lewis.

He graduated from Poland Seminary High School in 1959 and remained a lifelong resident of the Mahoning Valley.

Bill spent the majority of his career in the grocery industry. He proudly owned and operated Stanton’s Market on Route 616 in Struthers for more than 23 years before retiring. During that time, he was a member of the Youngstown Area Grocers Association (YAGA) for several years. Retirement, however, did not suit Bill for long. He returned to work at Rulli Brothers on South Avenue in Boardman, where he continued working until the time of his passing.

Above all, Bill was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who treasured his family. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, creating memories that will be cherished for years to come. He also enjoyed the company of family and friends and was an avid fan and supporter of the Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Cavaliers.

Bill is survived by his three children, Shari Post of Akron, William "Bill" (Michelle) Stanton Jr. of Boardman and Amy (Scott) Hevener of Missoula, Montana; his stepson, Carmen (Erin) Pezzone Jr. of Maryland; and six grandchildren, Autumn Post, Jaryd Post, Karianne (Jordana Page) Joy, Benjamin Pezzone, Jacob Stanton and Luke Pezzone.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 32 years, the former Eileen M. France, whom he married on May 22, 1993, and who died on Aug. 1, 2025.

Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30, 2026, at Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market St., Boardman.

A funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home, with Reverend Russ Adams officiating.

Private burial will take place in Lake Park Cemetery in Youngstown.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting material tributes take the form of donations to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org in memory of Bill.

Family and friends are invited to visit the Becker Funeral Homes website to share memories and extend condolences to Bill's family.

Bill will be remembered for his dedication to his work, his love for his family, and the many years he spent as a familiar and friendly presence in the Mahoning Valley. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
