CLARK, Pa. - Terrence "Terry" P. Jones passed away peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026, surrounded by his family, at home.
Terry was born on March 6, 1942, in Youngstown.
"I always tried to be a good guy."
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jeanne Whalen Jones; daughter, Tracy Jones, and partner, Jim Loomis; daughter, Deb Shelley, and husband, John Shelley; along with a host of family and friends who cherished him.
Terry's passion for sports began in Mill Creek Park, where he played with neighbors and siblings. A gifted athlete, he excelled in football. His love for golf began when he worked as a caddy barely bigger than a golf bag himself.
Terry held many jobs working summers and throughout school. He helped to provide for his seven siblings and parents. Terry's sterling work ethic and devotion to family spanned his lifetime.
He graduated from Cardinal Mooney HS in ’61 and enlisted in the Navy in ’62.
Terry served on the USS Annapolis ASMR-1 and the USS Canberra CAG-2, achieving the rank of MM2 (E-5), and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal. Following his honorable discharge in ’66, he completed seven years of trade training.
Terry built a successful 40-plus year career as a commercial HVAC mechanic and foreman. His apprentices, dubbing him "Rocket Socks," grew from Terry’s knowledge in many building trades.
Terry's heart powered the work of his hands. Upon his retirement, he built their retirement home in Clark, Pa. He continued to work as head of maintenance for residential communities.
A committed member of the community, Terry began his service by clearing debris after the Clark tornado.
As a 15-year member of the Shenango River Watchers, Terry participated in river cleanups, tire recycling, trail building and maintenance, environmental education and acted as a golf outing host.
Terry helped to host the annual Father's Day car show for 20 years, along with fellow SVACC members.
He was a friend to all, the neighbor to help with any chore, a fishing buddy, and the ringer in any golf scramble.
Terry wanted us all to know that, "I had a great life, I worked hard, and I always tried to be a good guy."
His family wishes to thank the caring professionals who eased his transition, and visitors who lightened his days.
Dedicated donations in Terry's honor can be made to the Mercer County Food Bank and the Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley.
