Ronald Helmick

CANFIELD – Ronald E. Helmick, 58, of Canfield, passed away Wednesday morning Oct. 14, 2026.

He was born Nov. 21, 1967, in New Martinsville, West Virginia, a son of Harvey and Shirley Sandy Helmick. He came to the area in the late 90s.

Ron was a 1986 honors graduate of Paden City High School, where he lettered in football and track and field. He then graduated from West Liberty State University in 1990. He earned his C.P.A. before entering federal service, working first with the Department of Treasury, Inspector General, in Washington, D.C. He then worked as a revenue agent with the IRS in Columbus. Ultimately, he became a special agent with the FBI in 1995, retiring in 2024. As an agent, Ron served on the SWAT team and was active in agent training and mentorship. He had the special pleasure of experiencing much of the world during his work travels. While very dedicated to his work, Ron enjoyed golfing and spending time with his family at the beach.

Ron will be remembered as a wonderful father, brother and friend to many. Besides his parents in Paden City, he leaves his daughter, Jordan (Aaron) Ferguson and his son, Andrew, both of Canfield. He took great pride in his children. He was always supportive of their passions and could often be found officiating and timing their swim meets or listening to their classical piano pieces. He expressed tremendous enthusiasm for their futures. Ron also leaves a brother, Tim (Loria) Helmick of Morgantown, West Virginia, and two nieces, Erika Poling and Allison Shekhawat.

A funeral service for Ron will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2026, at Lane Funeral Home, 65 N. Broad Street, Canfield, Ohio 44406.
