Margaret Filaccio 1940-2026

LIBERTY - Margaret R. Filaccio, 86, a longtime resident of Liberty Township, passed away from natural causes on Monday, Sept. 28, 2026, early evening at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.

She was born March 31, 1940, in Sharpsville, Pa., the daughter of Maria Lopez de Suarez and Margarito Navarro.

Margaret graduated from East High School in June 1957. She obtained both her bachelor's and master's degrees from the Williamson School of Business at Youngstown State University.

Upon graduation, she worked as an accountant for various public accounting firms, including Abe Harshman, Tony Davanzo and Robert Bellotto, becoming a Certified Public Accountant herself in 1992. She also worked as a Corporate Controller for Donald C. Malasky, a real estate developer in Ohio and Florida. She opened her own practice in Liberty under Margaret R. Filaccio, LLC, Certified Public Accountant.

She volunteered for the Akron Children's Miracle Network during their annual fundraisers and was active in local business organizations, the Mahoning Valley Accounting Society and the American Society of Women Accountants; she was active at the local and national levels of the American Society of Certified Public Accountants.

She and her husband, Patsy, enjoyed traveling well into their retirement years and were season ticket holders for Youngstown State football games. Margaret enjoyed the company of her local "Red Hat" ladies as well as attending the annual Easterseals Fashion Show fundraiser with lifelong friends.

She married Patsy A. Filaccio on Sept. 24, 1960, at St. Edward Church, and they shared 63 years of marriage. Together they raised three children, MaryLynne Filaccio, PhD, Julianne G. (Patrick) Brown, MM, and Angelo Filaccio (Neil Romanosky), MBA. She is survived by a brother, Phillip (Sue) Suarez of Salem; a sister-in-law, MaryAnn Navarro of Indianapolis, Indiana; and a brother-in-law, Frank (Sylvia) Filaccio of Howland; as well as goddaughters, nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Martin Surez; and her siblings, Joseph P. Navarro, Irene Olson and Julian J. Navarro.

Calling hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, 2026, at Schiavone Funeral Home, 1842 Belmont Ave., Youngstown.

Her Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at St. Edward Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Society of the Little Flower.
