Margaret Bajnok 1932-2026

NEWTON FALLS -- Margaret Theresa Bajnok, age 94, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2026, the Catholic feast day of St. Therese.

She was born July 16, 1932, in Campbell, to Michael and Margaret Kollar Svagerko.

A devout lifelong Catholic with unwavering faith instilled by her loving Slovak parents and the nuns of St. Elizabeth Grade School in Campbell, Margaret graduated from Campbell Memorial High School in 1950.

Margaret married Mike J. Bajnok of Newton Falls on June 13, 1959, at St. Elizabeth Church in Campbell. They resided in Newton Falls, where they raised four children and were parishioners of St. Joseph Church. Mike and Margaret were married for 66 years before his passing on March 27, 2026.

Prior to her marriage, Margaret worked at Public Finance in Youngstown. After having children, she became a devoted homemaker. When her children grew older, Margaret was employed at Trumbull Memorial Hospital for 20 years, where she worked sequentially in various departments (dietary, housekeeping, and central sterile supply) until retiring in 2002.

Throughout her life, Margaret was immersed in the Catholic community, volunteering at Newton Falls Catholic Elementary School, singing in the church choir and praying with the rosary group.

Furthermore, she cherished her family and particularly enjoyed bus trips with her husband and sharing stories with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Proud of her Slovak heritage and a member of the First Catholic Slovak Union, Margaret loved baking with her family as well as listening to polka music and attending spirited family gatherings with traditional foods. It was a joy to listen to Margaret with her brothers and sisters reminisce about life growing up in Campbell back in the good old days.

Margaret is survived by her four children, Michael E. (Stephanie) Bajnok, Dr. Thomas Bajnok (Dr. Maria Dunn), Paul Bajnok (Rachel Hrbolich) and Maria (Gilbert) Garcia; six grandchildren, Elizabeth (Taylor) Duncan, Audrey Adams, Leah Bajnok, Noelle Garcia, Kole Bajnok and Andrew Bajnok; and two great-grandchildren, Aria Duncan and Hunter Duncan. She is also survived by her brother, Cyril (Sara) Svagerko of Campbell; sister-in-law, Maria Svagerko of Delaware; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mike; and her siblings, Carl Svagerko, Anna Polkabla, Richard Svagerko and Irene Lefoer.

The family extends their gratitude to Margaret’s personal caregivers, Ohio Living Hospice, Aventura at Humility House and Home Instead.

Calling hours will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, with the Rosary at 10 a.m., at Borowski Memorial Home, 30 Ridge Road, Newton Falls.

A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. at SS. Mary and Joseph Church, 131 W. Quarry St., Newton Falls, with Rev. Zachary Coulter as celebrant and Rev. Carl Kish as concelebrant.

Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, followed by a luncheon at the church for all family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to be made in memory of Margaret to St. Mary & St. Joseph Church, Newton Falls.
