POLAND-Karen A. Hum, 70, passed on to her Savior Jesus Christ unexpectedly on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2026, at Salem Regional Medical Center, following complications of her courageous battle with breast cancer.
Born on July 15, 1956, Karen was the daughter of the late Warren and Arlene Gurski.
A 1974 graduate of Columbiana High School and later business school, Karen worked for Equitable Insurance Company, paying medical claims. On May 5, 1979, Karen married Jeffrey Hum and built a life full of family, fun and hard work.
Karen loved her family and friends. She hosted many holiday events and special events. She loved planting her flowers every spring and changing decorations in the house for the seasons and holidays. Karen had a wonderful talent and a great eye for crafts, sewing, paintings, scrapbooks and planning spectacular vacations around the world. Karen’s biggest passion was raising her children, Bryan and Lindsey, and attending all of their events from band, baseball, gymnastics and cheerleading. Later in life, that passion changed when she became a special grandma to Valerie, Cameron, and Eric.
Karen’s beautiful smile and love will be greatly missed by her loving husband, Jeffrey; children, Bryan (Rachel) Hum, and Lindsey (Matt) Pufall; grandchildren, Valerie, Cameron, and Eric; sister, Denice Reidy; nieces, Michaela and Mackenzie; and her special dog, Ruby.
In accordance with her wishes, no service will take place at this time.
A celebration of life will take place at a future date.
