AUSTINTOWN -- Eric A. Hogan “Hoagie”, departed this world peacefully from his home on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2026, at the age of 60.
Eric was born Sept. 18, 1966, in Pittsburgh, Pa., a son of the late Raymond and Linda Kern Hogan; and grandson of the late Carl and Helen Swink Kern.
After serving honorably in the United States Army from Nov. 2, 1988, until Jan. 28, 1992, he dedicated himself to public service as a correctional officer at the Ohio State Penitentiary, from where he retired in 2022.
Eric was known for his quick wit, playful sense of humor and lighthearted spirit. A natural jokester and prankster, he had a unique ability to bring laughter to those around him and make people feel welcome. He had a warm, fatherly presence, a kind heart and a genuine way of connecting with people from all walks of life. A devoted family man, he cherished the time spent with his loved ones, especially traveling and making lasting memories together. His love for traveling took him across the country, accomplishing the remarkable feat of visiting all 50 states by the age of 50. He had a true appreciation for good food, always seeking out the best places to eat and enjoying those experiences with his family. Above all, he was a caring, compassionate man whose humor, generosity, love of family and welcoming nature left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Eric leaves behind his beloved wife, Laura Kamrad Hogan, whom he married June 20, 1992; his children, Justin Durkin, Keenya Hogan and family, Taylor (Matthew) Williams, Tyler Hogan and Adam Hogan; his brother, Todd (Lori) Hogan and family; his Kamrad family; his Puthoff family; his Kekely family; his cousin, Merrilyn Osinak and family; his extended family, Louis (Kaycie) Kuntz; his OSP family; and his brothers-in-arms.
A Celebration of Eric’s life will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, 2026, at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, 4303 Mahoning Ave. Prior to the services, calling hours will be held at the same location from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. After services, Eric’s family and friends are all welcome to join us at Barry Dyngels.
