Daniel A. McGiffin 1968-2026

YOUNGSTOWN – Daniel Aloysius McGiffin passed away on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2026, surrounded by his loving family and friends.

Daniel was born in January 1968, the son of Thomas and Noreen Handel-McGiffin.

A graduate of Boardman High School in 1987, he continued his education at Youngstown State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in physics and astronomy in 1991.

He moved to the Washington, D.C., area shortly after graduation. He worked for several technical companies supporting various aerospace projects under contracts with NASA and the Department of Defense for over 30 years.

He had been a member of St. Dominic Parish since 2009.

Daniel's loving memory will forever be cherished by his siblings, Thomas (Debbie) McGiffin of Girard, Tim (Lisa) McGiffin of Poland, Nora (Dennis) Page of Sevierville, Tennessee, and Kathleen Longacre of Aurora, Illinois; his nephews and nieces, Tommy (Marie Agona) Powell, Bridget Powell, Krystina (Chris) Thomas, Michael (Maura) McGiffin, Ryan (Kaitlin) McGiffin and Madeline Longacre; and niece-in-law, Alana Page; and his great-nephews and great-nieces, Arthur, Madison, Anya (godchild), Anna, Bruce, Landon, Mario, Jay, Patrick, August and Evyn.

Most notably, his loving memory will forever be cherished by his Uncle Dan and Aunt Dolly Handel and Aunt Ann Handel-Gudas.

His memory will also be cherished by dearest friends, Markus Benkert and his family; Conrad and Mariana Schiff and family; long dearest friends of Ohio, Michael and Marie Vostatek and family; and dear friends, Uria and Rebecca Schlabach and family.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Patrick; nephew, Christopher Page; and notably, Edward “Ted” Handel and Marie Handel, who were his uncle, aunt and godparents.

The family would like to extend a thank you to the wonderful staff of Shepherd of the Valley Boardman and the caring nurses of Hospice. A special thank you to the Rev. Fr. Frassati Davis and Lisa Cahill of St. Dominic Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, Dan had requested contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or Hospice of the Valley.

Services will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2026, at McCauley Funeral Home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2026, at St. Dominic Church, Youngstown.
