Christine A. Hylton 1946-2026

LOWELLVILLE - Christine A. Hylton, 80, passed away peacefully on Monday, Oct. 5, 2026, at Shepherd of the Valley in Girard.

Christine was born on March 8, 1946, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late John and Audrey McDonald Kmetz.

Christine graduated in 1964 from Campbell Memorial High School and worked for over 35 years for Classic Optical and Bargain Port.

She was a quiet, easy-going woman who was happiest at home, surrounded by the things - and especially the animals - she loved. She could be stubborn, particularly when it came to leaving the area she knew and loved. Home was home, and she was perfectly content with the peace and quiet of familiar surroundings.

She had an especially soft spot for animals and seemed willing to take in just about anything that needed a little care. Over the years, that included dogs and cats, but also squirrels and whatever else happened to find its way to her. She enjoyed their company and found a lot of happiness simply being at home with them.

An avid reader, Christine also enjoyed cooking, with Canadian bacon and spaghetti among the dishes her family remembers. Although naturally quiet and very much a homebody, her family meant a great deal to her. Living next door to Shelley kept family close by, and she had an especially soft spot for Noah and Kayla. She didn’t need much to be content - her home, her family, her animals, a good book, and a little peace and quiet were more than enough.

Christine leaves behind to cherish her memory her children, William (Marlo) Hanak, Keith (Judith) Hanak and Shelley (Brian) Eckman; her grandchildren, Noah and Kayla Bush, Laney (Tyler M.) Swary, Alex Zimmerman, Derek (Sidney) Zimmerman, Lucas Hanak, Lauren Hanak, Morgan (Tanner) Wahn, Tony (Paula) Coffey, William (Lillian) McElhinney and Deanna (Zachary) Degner; 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; brother, Dr. John Kmetz; sisters-in-law, Rosie Kmetz and Debbie Kmetz; and her close cousin, Kim (Luanne) Miller.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George Hylton; and her brothers, Kenneth and Michael Kmetz.

Per Christine’s wishes, there will be no calling hours or services.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers.
