POLAND - Charles "Herb" Herbert Hughes, born May 28, 1938, passed away at 88 on Friday, Oct. 16, 2026, at Hospice House, surrounded by the love of his family.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Alice Hughes.
Known for his strong work ethic, he began at Handel's at age 12. He later built a respected career as a surveyor/engineer, contributing to notable projects across the area. His pride in his work shone through the many stories he told.
Herb married his beloved Patricia "Patti" Hughes on Nov. 9, 1990, who also preceded him in death on Jan. 18, 2025, following 34 years of marriage.
An avid golfer, he enjoyed being part of a local league for many years with his son Tim. Herb and Patti looked forward to wintering in Florida, where he would continue his favorite pastimes, golfing and being with his wife in warmth.
He cherished life’s simplicity, such as being with his beloved Patti in the garage watching TV while waving at neighbors and hosting family gatherings.
Herb is survived by his children, Charles Hughes Jr. and Kelly Fisher, Shelly Hughes, Stacy Hughes and John Moschella, Tracy Hughes and Steve Pavuk, Josh Hamilton and Jenn Maust, Tim and Kate Hamilton, as well as 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
