STRUTHERS -- Carol Jean Boggs, 87, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 20, 2026, at Shepherd of the Valley in Boardman.
She was born on Jan. 24, 1939, in Bluefield, W.Va., a daughter of the late Gilbert and Florence Dickens Boggs.
She earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing, where she was a member of Beta Sigma Phi and worked for many years at Southside Hospital as a registered nurse. After her retirement, she went back to school at Youngstown State University and earned a second bachelor’s degree.
She was a lovely, soft-spoken woman who always carried herself with grace and a certain sense of propriety. She was modest by nature, but there was quite a bit to admire about the life she lived and the things she did for others. Over her lifetime, she donated more than three and a half gallons of blood and was known to take in neighborhood cats that needed a little extra care. She was also a faithful volunteer at the Republican voting polls, working elections over the years.
Carol Jean’s faith and her church were a big part of her life. She attended deaconess school before returning home to care for her mother. At Christ Lutheran Church, she served as secretary, helped with cleaning, sat on the church council, and enjoyed being part of the ladies’ group. She was someone who was willing to do whatever needed to be done, whether that meant taking on a larger responsibility or simply helping behind the scenes. She also remained a member of her college sorority until it eventually disbanded.
At home, she enjoyed keeping busy and had a number of talents. She loved gardening and, as a vegetarian, grew much of the produce she enjoyed herself. She also canned what she grew and spent time quilting, painting, crocheting, knitting, and sewing. She appreciated the satisfaction of making things herself and took pride in caring for her home, her garden, and the people and creatures around her.
Carol Jean leaves behind to cherish her memory several nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and many great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Marilyn “Marli” Boggs-Conner.
A memorial Celebration of Life will be at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2026, at Christ Lutheran Church in Struthers.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers.
