NEW MIDDLETOWN - Anita M. Chiaro, 83, of New Middletown, passed away Monday, Sept. 28, 2026, at Masternick Memorial Nursing Home.
Anita was born Dec. 1, 1942, in Youngstown, the daughter of the late John and Constance Gagliano Pachner.
Anita met the love of her life, Patsy Chiaro, at a high school basketball game, and they married on Dec. 2, 1961; he preceded her in death on April 21, 2013. She was a graduate of Springfield Local High School. Anita retired from Schwebel’s Baking Co., where she worked as the thrift store manager in the accounting department.
She enjoyed watching her favorite sports teams, including the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates and Penguins.
Anita is survived by her daughter, Mary Sue Shaner and her husband, Mike; brothers, John (Liz) Pachner, Robert (Mandy) Pachner and Phillip (Allison) Pachner; sister, Patricia (Bob) Slosser; grandson, Dr. Ryan Shaner; granddaughter, Megan Shaner; sister-in-law, Nancy Chiaro; and stepsisters-in-law, Violet Cracraft and Louise Cracraft.
In addition to her parents, Anita was preceded in death by her husband, Patsy Chiaro; and her in-laws, Catherine and Naaman Cracraft and Guy Chiaro. She was also preceded in death by her brother-in-law, John Chiaro; step-sisters-in-law, Rachael Shuluga and Dorothy Hawkins; step brothers-in-law, Russell, Gene and Donnie Lee Cracraft.
Family and friends may call from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 4, 2026, at Terry Cunningham Funeral Home, 203 Oak St., Bessemer, Pa.
A funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home.
Anita will be laid to rest in Zion Lutheran Cemetery in New Middletown.
