STRUTHERS -- Amelia Zaluski, 96, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2026, at Maplecrest Nursing Home.
She was born on Feb. 18, 1930, in Lowellville, and was a lifelong resident of Struthers.
She graduated from Struthers High School in 1948 as "Miss Struthers." She married Donald E. DeLost in 1949 and had three children, Bernie, Pauline and Mark, whom she loved dearly and lived for unconditionally. They enjoyed many years and good times at the SNPJ campsite, Lodge 277, where they both served as dedicated officers. Donald passed in 1984.
Amelia then married Walter "Beck" Zaluski in 1988; they were employed together at Struthers City Hall. As a couple, they enjoyed their Croatian heritage, singing and dancing at CFU Lodge 66, and picnics at Strozmeyers Grove. They took several trips around the world, highlighted by their trip to Yugoslavia, with her sister, Kay, and brother-in-law, Joe Skebo.
Amelia worked many jobs, but her dedication always came back to the City of Struthers. She was appointed Clerk of Council for 28 years and retired in 1993. She was a lifelong member of Christ Our Savior Church, where she served as a lector and Eucharistic minister and was a member of the church choir. Her lady friends of faith in the Altar and Rosary Society were sacred to her.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory three children, Bernie (Julie) Delost of Newport Richey, Florida, Pauline (Frank) Mascola of Struthers and Mark DeLost of Newport Richey, Florida; stepson, Michael (Jeani) Zaluski of North Canton; and stepdaughter, Marilyn Tusinac of Youngstown. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Frank (Darlene) Mascola, Mike (Melissa) Mascola, Kristina (Ryan) Capreta, Jennifer Delost, Marky Delost, Brian (Claudessa) Tusinac, Shawn Tusinac, Marissa Tusinac and Danny (Amanda) Thomas. She also adored her extended family, including her grandchildren, Aubrey, Kenleigh, Devon, Bryce and Emmy. Amelia also loved her nieces and nephews, especially on her casino trips with Karen. Christmas dinners were a hit as they enjoyed her cooking and baking.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Annie Kopp and Catherine Skebo; her brothers, John, Joe, Matt, Pete and Robert Sarich; and her daughter-in-law, Jean (Mark) DeLost, who passed away in July 2005.
A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 5, 2026, at Christ Our Savior Parish-St. Nicholas Church, 764 Fifth St., Struthers.
There will be no calling hours, upon Amelia's request.
