YOUNGSTOWN -- Sydney "Syd" Joseph Rolland, 56, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2026, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital emergency room.
Sydney, known by his family and friends as "Syd," was born on Aug. 1, 1970, in Youngstown, a son of Donald "Skip" R. Rolland and Patricia J. Koulikowski Rolland.
He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1988 and was a lifelong resident of the Mahoning Valley.
After high school, Syd started working in the cellular industry for several years and later worked for St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown in the Central Supply Department. He later transferred to the Maintenance Department at the hospital for several years until his time of death.
He was a devoted son, life companion, father, brother, uncle and friend. In his free time, Syd enjoyed attending car and bike shows in the area. He enjoyed traveling to Myrtle Beach for Bike Week each year. He owned several cars and motorcycles and enjoyed working on them. Syd loved listening to music and attending concerts. He was an avid KISS fan and loved to make family and friends laugh.
Syd is survived by his father, Donald "Skip" Rolland of Struthers; his companion, Melanie Maenza of Macedonia; his adopted daughter, Miranda Rolland of Austintown; two stepsons, Jackson Reed and Carter Reed; his sister, Sheryl (Todd) Allen of Struthers; nephews and nieces, David Pratt, Steven Rolland Jr. and Ashton Allen; great-nieces, Maria, Sophia and Eleanor; a great-nephew, David; several cousins; and many good friends.
Besides his mother, Syd was preceded in death by a brother, Steven Rolland.
Friends and family may gather for a time of sharing and celebrating Syd's life from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, 2026, at Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, 270 N. Main St., Poland.
Syd's final act of kindness was to give the gift of life through eye and tissue donation.
