STRUTHERS -- Raymond "Ray" J. Calcagni Sr., 87, of Struthers, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family, on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2026.
Born on Nov. 17, 1938, in Youngstown, he was the son of Julius and Georgia Vitullo Calcagni.
A 1956 graduate of East High School, he participated and lettered all four years in baseball.
In May 1961, he married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Ruth Ann Wilson; together, they shared more than 65 wonderful years of marriage.
He retired from Aqua Ohio (Ohio Water Service) in 1996 at the age of 58, after more than 40 years of dedicated service to the company. He retired as manager of the Struthers District.
Ray was a passionate fisherman and hunter. He spent many summer days angling at Beaver, Evans and Pine Lakes. He loved attending his grandchildren's sporting events over the years.
He was actively involved in Struthers Rotary, receiving the distinguished Paul Harris Fellow award as well as being installed as the 38th president of the club in 1992.
Ray leaves behind his loving wife, Ruth; his sons, Ray Jr. (Lori) and Michael (Laura); daughter, Mary Beth (Jeff) Hudock; his grandchildren, Drew, Ryan, Anthony, Emma, Briana and Raegan; sister, Darlene (John) Morris; sisters-in-law, Kathie Ziemianski, Mary Jo McClean and Jenny Prest; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends, who will cherish his memory.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Bob; and sister-in-law, Gina.
Special thanks to the caring team at Patriot Home Health and Patriot Hospice Care, especially Cassie and Denise. You both brought compassion and care to our father and our family in this time of need. Another special thank you to JoAnna at Mahoning Valley Medical. Your care and kindness provided him comfort and offered our family peace of mind in his final days.
In keeping with Ray's wishes, there will be no calling hours. A private service was held.
