GIRARD -- James P. Mozzillo, 85, passed away peacefully Thursday, Sept. 24, 2026, under hospice care.
A lifelong Girard resident, James was born Oct. 16, 1941, to the late Martin and Mary Guarino Mozzillo.
He graduated from Girard High School in 1959, and later attended Youngstown State University, where he studied mathematics. He also served as a dispatcher for the Girard Police Department. James was an avid Cleveland Indians and Miami Dolphins fan. Often remembered as a statistical genius, he could recall seemingly any athlete's information and performance statistics at will.
He was also an avid walker and a friendly conversationalist who enjoyed talking with anyone he happened to meet. James took a genuine interest in others and had a remarkable ability to remember the details of their conversations. Drinking coffee and chatting about just about anything were among the simple things he loved most and were often how he showed his love for others. Above all, James was devoted to his family throughout his life and was always there to care for them.
James will be sadly missed by his brother, Bobby Mozzillo and his wife, Lisa of Girard; his nephew, Santino Mozzillo; his niece, Arianna Mozzillo; and many extended family members and friends.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his brother, Martin Jr.; and his sister, Annette "Netta."
Family and friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 2, 2026, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 222 S. State St., Girard.
Prayers will be offered at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial that will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Rose Church, 48 E. Main St., Girard.
Private interment will take place in St. Stephen Cemetery in Niles.
