STRUTHERS -- Frank Frattaroli, 79, passed away peacefully at his home early Thursday morning, Sept. 17, 2026.
Frank was born July 8, 1947, in Youngstown, the son of the late Frank and Ann Bruno Frattaroli.
He was a 1965 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. In 1966, Frank was drafted into the United States Army. He served one year at Fort Benning, Georgia, followed by a year in Vietnam, where he served in two capacities -- as an officers' cook and later as a helicopter gunner. He attained the rank of Sergeant E-5 before receiving his honorable discharge.
Following his military service, Frank managed Sohio service stations while also serving for two years as a reserve deputy sheriff. He then spent 10 years at Sparkle Market before working with Monarch Life Insurance and Security Mutual, selling life and disability insurance. When Monarch closed its local office, Frank entered the food business.
Frank owned and operated Italo's Pizza with his wife, Joyce, from 1984 to 1987, then went on to operate the Belleria Pizza and Italian Restaurant in Massillon for three years. Since his time in Massillon, Frank has been involved in the franchising and marketing for Belleria Restaurants. In 2014, he became a partner in the Belleria Struthers location, where he remained for eight years. Frank has continued to be a special part of the Belleria Struthers family, especially assisting with its catering business.
Frank was an enormous part of the community through his tireless volunteerism and dedication to others. At Youngstown State University, he was a longtime member of the Penguin Club and served as a trustee for the last 14 years. He also served as chairperson of the Women's Basketball Golf Outing for 24 years and generously catered numerous meals for YSU athletic teams.
His community service extended well beyond YSU. Frank served on the Muscular Dystrophy Committee for eight years and as a trustee with Curbstone Coaches. In 1980, he received the second-highest award from the American Red Cross for saving a man's life. In 2017, Frank was inducted into the Woodrow Wilson High School Hall of Fame.
As a lifelong member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica, Frank dedicated decades of service to his parish. He served two years as Parish Council president and was an usher and money counter for 50 years. He served as a spaghetti dinner worker and chairperson, worked on the festival committee for 26 years, and served as festival chairperson for five years. He also served as secretary of the Vestibule Club for more than 20 years. In 2019, Frank was honored as the Festival Man of the Year.
Frank will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Joyce Streiner, whom he married April 25, 1981; his son, Michael Frattaroli; his brother-in-law, Gary (Theresa) Streiner; his niece, Lindsay Hanna; and three nephews, Ryan Granger, and Christopher and Scott Streiner.
Frank was a great friend to so many people throughout the community. His life was defined by service, generosity, friendship and an unwavering commitment to the people and organizations he loved. His legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched, and the community is a better place because of his involvement.
He will be sadly missed but never forgotten.
Besides his parents, Frank and Ann Frattaroli, Frank was preceded in death by his brother, Ralph Frattaroli; and sister-in-law, Patty Granger.
Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20, 2026, at Rossi Brothers and Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Ave., Boardman.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 21, 2026, at the funeral home, followed by an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at the Basilica of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, with the Very Rev. Monsignor John Zuraw, J.C.L., VG, officiating.
