POLAND -- Donald E. "Don" Hill, 74, of Poland, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, Sept. 6, 2026.
He was born April 2, 1952, in Youngstown, the son of Veryl G. and Helen E. Scott Hill, and was a lifelong area resident. Don was a 1970 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School.
Don enjoyed a long and successful career in sales, beginning at Stambaugh-Thompson, followed by Lowe's, through his retirement in 2018 as a contractor sales representative at The Home Depot.
Throughout his life, Don had many passions. He especially enjoyed playing golf and watching football, proudly cheering on his favorite team, the Pittsburgh Steelers. Above all, Don cherished his family and the time he spent with those he loved.
Left behind to cherish Don's memory are the love of his life, his wife of more than 32 years, the former Jill Makara, whom he married Oct. 15, 1994; three children, Jayson (Kim) Hill, Justin Hill and Rachel (Bruce) Hill; four grandchildren, Lia, Elena, Jayden and Cyprus; his sister, Darlene S. (Donald) Williams; two sisters-in-law, Jenny DeCapita and Joyce (John) Touris; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Don was preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Eleanor Makara.
Don's life was a beautiful testament to kindness, devotion and unconditional love. He will always be remembered for his warm smile, wonderful sense of humor and generous heart. His presence brought joy to those around him, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
Rather than a traditional funeral service, Don's family will host a celebration of life to share stories, laughter and fond memories. It will take place on Monday, Sept. 14, 2026, at Highway House, 3000 S. Raccoon Road, Austintown, with a time of greeting and visitation from 4:30 to 5:25 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 5:30 p.m.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of Thompson-Filicky Funeral Home, 4221 Market St., Boardman.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the entire staff of Patriot Home Hospice for their compassionate care and support of Don and his family.
