STRUTHERS -- Daniel L. "Danny" Kountz, 78, passed away peacefully Monday morning, Aug. 31, 2026, with his family by his side.
Born Aug. 14, 1948, in Youngstown, Dan was the son of George and Frances Pascarella Kountz.
Throughout his life, he was a man of service, hard work, and quiet dedication to the people and things that mattered most to him.
Dan proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. His military service was an important part of his life and a source of lasting pride. He earned the National Defense Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Rifle Sharpshooter Badge, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal. His courage and commitment to his country will always be remembered and honored.
Following his military service, Dan continued a life of service and hard work. He worked as an EMT, helping others during moments when they needed it most, and later worked for the Mahoning County Engineer's Office. He took pride in his work and the responsibility of doing a job well.
Away from work, Dan found happiness in the things he could build, repair and make his own. He enjoyed woodworking, working on motorcycles, and riding his Harley. Whether he was in the garage with a project or out on the open road, these were the moments that reflected his independence, his skill, and his love of life.
Above all, Dan was a father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend whose presence will be deeply missed. His family will remember his profound presence, the things he taught them, the gifts he made for them, the time they spent together and the ordinary moments that now mean so much. The love he gave will forever remain a part of their lives. He had a way of making his words count, and those who knew him understood the meaning behind even his simple remarks. "Dan's gotta go." It became his unmistakable way of saying goodbye -- a phrase that could bring a smile to the room and one his family will forever hear in his voice.
Dan will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Lee (Erika) Kountz; his son, Dylan (Breanna) Kountz; his grandson, Ryker; and several loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Jeannette Kountz; and his brother, John Kountz.
Family and friends may pay their respects as they gather for a Celebration of Life from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026, at The Stonewall Lodge, 10250 Springfield Road, Poland, OH 44514.
Dan's dedicated service to his country will be recognized with full military honors.
