AKRON -- Carole Lynn Wilson Greene, 79, of Akron, passed away Friday, Sept. 25, 2026.
Born Oct. 23, 1946, in St. Louis, Missouri, Carole graduated from St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in 1967 and dedicated nearly five decades to a career in nursing before retiring as a charge nurse from St. Elizabeth Hospital in 2015.
Carole's greatest joy was her family. She was extraordinarily generous, kind, fiercely independent, quick-witted, incredibly funny and occasionally a little spicy. She was the mom who chaperoned band trips, welcomed her daughters' friends as family, and would do just about anything for the people she loved. Her daughters and grandchildren were truly the center of her world.
Carole was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dennis Clifford Greene; her parents, Lloyd and LaVerne Wilson; and her brother, Jim Wilson.
She is survived by her daughters, Becky Whitney and Caryn Vander Laan; grandchildren, Brady Whitney, Connor Whitney, Macsen Whitney, Stella Vander Laan and Tate Vander Laan; and nephews, Andy Wilson and Matt Wilson.
Fittingly, Carole's lifetime of caring for others continued after her passing through organ donation -- one final act of generosity from a woman who spent her life helping others.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2026, at Hummel Funeral Home, 2800 W. Market St., Fairlawn, OH 44333. Calling hours will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service.
Carole was deeply loved and will be deeply missed by the many lives she touched.
