Betty Grossen 1940-2026

STRUTHERS -- Betty Grossen, 85, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, Sept. 14, 2026, with her family at her side.

Born on Oct. 6, 1940, in Youngstown, she was a daughter to the late John and Catherine Dubec Gerlach.

She was a graduate of Struthers High School, class of 1958. On Nov. 15, 1974, Betty married the love of her life, Clifton Grossen. The two shared 48 beautiful years of marriage until his passing on May 16, 2022.

Betty dedicated many years of her life to the Youngstown Public Library, where she began working at the age of 15 and retired at the age of 55. A lifelong lover of reading, she was rarely without a book in her hand. She also loved playing cards and was a member of the Card Club for more than 60 years.

Betty was a lifelong member of St. Nicholas Church, where she was actively involved with the Altar and Rosary Society, church festivals and church bingo.

She was an avid sports fan and proudly supported all her Cleveland teams, including the Indians, Cavaliers and Browns, as well as Ohio State. She enjoyed casino bus trips, listening to music and especially loved listening to her husband's band when they played. She also enjoyed dancing and spending time with family and friends.

Betty is survived by her siblings, Jim (Judy) Gerlach of North Lima, Donna Gerlach of Canfield, and Janet Gerlach of Struthers; stepsons, Scott (Mary Beth) Grossen of Poland, and Russell (Jessica) Grossen of California; granddaughters, Marcy (Devon) Hoffman, and Abby Grossen; her great-grandson, Bentley; nieces, Carrie (Mark) Hagan, and Gina (Tom) Titus; great-niece, Abby Hagan; and great-nephews, Jimmy Hagan, Tommy, Nick, and Cam Titus; and brothers-in-law, Baxter (Sally), and Walter (Terry) Grossen.

Calling hours will be from 10 a.m. until the time of prayer service at 12:15 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 21, 2026, at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, 11 Spring St., Struthers, OH 44471.

A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 1 p.m. on Monday, at Christ Our Savior Parish at St. Nicholas Church, 764 5th St., Struthers, OH 44471, with the Rev. Philip Rogers, celebrant.

She will be laid to rest in St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, Lowellville.
