NORTH LIMA -- Barbara Ann Check, 86, passed away peacefully on Friday, Aug. 28, 2026, at Aventura at Assumption Village in North Lima.
Barbara was born on April 28, 1940, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Alex and Faith Andrews Check.
She was a 1958 graduate of Struthers High School and went on to work for General Electric, where she dedicated more than 30 years before retiring.
Barbara was affectionately known as "Barbie Girl" during her time at the nursing home, a nickname that perfectly reflected her fun personality. She enjoyed playing bingo and loved sports, especially cheering on the Ohio State Buckeyes and Youngstown State Penguins. Barbara also loved to dance and was particularly fond of the jitterbug.
Above all, Barbara treasured her family. She was a devoted mother to her three daughters and a loving grandmother and great-grandmother. Time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren brought her great joy.
Barbara leaves behind her three daughters, Cheryl Trapnell of Boardman, Cynthia (James) Smith of Charleston, South Carolina and Carrie (Scott) Berry of Yorktown, Virginia; her grandchildren, Tim (Klissa), Amber (Tyler), Tyler and Luke; and three great-grandchildren; as well as several extended family members.
In addition to her mother, Faith Check, Barbara was preceded in death by her sisters, Joan Balas and Jean Bissett, and her brother, Austin "Dan" Check.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Aventura at Assumption and Harmony Hospice for their wonderful care of Barbara.
There will be no calling hours or services. A private celebration will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are being handled by the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, Struthers.
