SALEM -- William G. Vaughn passed away on Saturday, Aug. 15, 2026, at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Youngstown.
Born Dec. 2, 1939, in Youngstown, William "Bill" established his own company in 1979, Vaughn's Landscaping, which he owned, operated and worked hard in alongside his sons and other great employees, and made many friends on the job. His family appreciates how hard he worked for all of us. He was known for his expertise in building rock walls, along with patios, small bridges, and plantings.
Prior to owning his company, he worked at Duncin Landscaping, GM Lordstown, Chrysler in Twinsburg, Inglis Landscaping, and Lutz Farm in Lordstown, where he met his future, devoted wife of 58 years, Velma M. "Poochie" Perry Vaughn, before her death on Nov. 2, 2018.
"Bill," or "Papa," was also known for how he cared for and gave to others, helping and encouraging them. Wherever there was a need, he tried to fill it.
Survivors that hope to carry on the family love that was so important to Papa and Poochie include his children, Barbara Armstead, William (Angela) Vaughn Jr. and Gerald (Sharon) Vaughn; siblings, Darlene Smith, Jim Vaughn, Marty Vaughn and Richard Breneman; grandchildren, Elizabeth Pojman, Jennifer McWilliams, Jason Armstead, EmmaRae Foy, EllaGrace Foy, EvaLine Vaughn, Lee Withrow, Kate Felger, Charles Vaughn, Chase Vaughn, and Robert Vaughn Jr.; great-grandchildren, Sam, Missy, Paige, Nathan, Lucas, Shane, Scotty, Jimmy, Harley, Leslie, Anthony, Kalani and Kallie; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Robert E. Vaughn Sr.; great-granddaughter, Serenity Armstead; his brothers, George Vaughn Sr. and Joe Breneman; and sister, Sarah Breneman.
The family wishes to thank Sheryl Heinze of Quaker Tax Service, Salem; and the precious care given to our father during his last days at St. E's ICU, especially his compassionate nurse Jace and all of the staff.
