NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Wayne L. Bowen, 78, entered into eternal rest on Friday, July 31, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on Dec. 18, 1947, in Greenville, Pa., Wayne was the beloved son of the late Richard and Mary Zuschlag Bowen.
A 1965 graduate of Greenville High School, Wayne proudly served in the United States Army from 1966 to 1969, including service in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged as a Specialist 5 E-5 and received several military decorations, highlighted by the Army Commendation Medal for meritorious service.
On Jan. 29, 1972, Wayne married Andrea Glista; and together they shared more than 55 years of marriage built on love, loyalty and unwavering devotion. Even as his own health declined, Wayne's greatest concern remained Andrea. Until his final day, he continued to put her needs before his own, while Andrea faithfully remained by his side.
Following his military service, Wayne pursued engineering studies at Youngstown State University before beginning a 37-year career as a mechanic with Norfolk Southern Railway. He was known for his exceptional work ethic, remarkable mechanical ability and willingness to help others. He took great pride in passing those skills and values on to his children.
Wayne enjoyed the outdoors, traveling, solving puzzles and spending time with those he loved. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father and extraordinarily proud grandfather.
Wayne is survived by his beloved wife, Andrea; his four children, Patrick (Tracey) Bowen of San Diego, California, Matthew (Carla) Bowen of Canfield, Natalie (Tim) Pappagallo of Mineral Ridge and Richard (Jen) Bowen of Hudson; his nine cherished grandchildren, Olivia, Bryce, Madison, Morgan, Mason, Timmy, Dominic, Cameron and Ryan; his sister, Maxine (John) Hamilton of Farmington, Arkansas; his brothers- and sisters-in-law; and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends.
Wayne's life was defined by faithfulness to his country, his family and an honest day's work. His humility, generosity and quiet example of service will continue to guide his family for generations to come.
Family and friends may pay their respects from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 10, 2026, at Higgins Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel. A prayer service will immediately follow calling hours, beginning at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Family and friends are invited to then travel in procession to Calvary Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest with military honors.
