POLAND -- Veronica Harpman, 74, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 27, 2026, at St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on March 4, 1952, in Youngstown, Veronica was the daughter of the late Joseph L. and Vera V. Cipkey Illes.
A lifelong resident of the Mahoning Valley, she graduated from Youngstown State University with a bachelor's degree in education and dedicated her career to serving others.
Veronica spent more than 31 years as a Special Education teacher at Volney Rogers Junior High School in Youngstown. She touched the lives of countless students through her patience, compassion, and commitment to helping each child reach their full potential. She retired in 2007 and left behind a legacy of kindness and service.
Outside the classroom, Veronica found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved bird watching, tending her garden, playing computer games, and gathering with family and friends for card games. She was also a longtime member of the League of Women Voters of Greater Youngstown, reflecting her lifelong commitment to civic engagement and her community.
Veronica is survived by her beloved husband, Richard C. Harpman, whom she married on June 22, 1979; her sister, Susanne Ripple and her husband, Paul of Youngstown; and several cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.
Family and friends may call from 3 to 4 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 3, 2026, at Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, 270 N. Main St., Poland. A prayer service will follow at 4 p.m. at the funeral home, officiated by Deacon Paul Lisko.
