STOW -- Thomas E. Balent, 57, formerly of Newton Falls, passed away Monday, Aug. 17, 2026.
He was born May 30, 1969, in Warren, a son of Frank and Carol Ludington Balent.
Tom was a 1987 graduate of Jackson-Milton High School, where he played football and participated in track and field events. He earned his bachelor's degree from Youngstown State University in 1993. He worked as a senior structural engineer for Wheaton and Sprague Engineering. He enjoyed golfing, bocce, softball, darts and playing poker with his friends and family.
He leaves his mother, of Newton Falls; his sister, Arlene (Howard) Evans of Austintown; his brother, Steve (Pam) Balent of Newton Falls; and his niece and nephews, Mark (Marauka) Balent, Jessica (Ron) Remsey and Jeffrey Balent.
Tom was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents.
A funeral service will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, 2026, at the Lane Funeral Home, 5797 Mahoning Ave., Austintown, OH 44515. Friends may call two hours prior to the service from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
