Marlene M. Petro 1931-2026

POLAND -- Marlene M. Petro, 95, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 31, 2026, with her family by her side.

Marlene was born on Jan. 12, 1931, in Youngstown, the daughter of John and Julia Fergus.

She enjoyed going to Mountaineer Casino and loved spending time with her family. Marlene also enjoyed making pierogies with friends and her sister, Delores, at St. Stanislaus Church.

She worked at A&P and retired from Weatherbee Coats.

Marlene will be missed by her sister, Susan Sakara of Weirton, W.Va.; children, John W. Sr. (JoAnn) Petro of Poland, William (Tina) Petro of Poland and Marianne (Dave) Surack of Indian Land, South Carolina;, as well as her grandchildren, Johnny W. Jr. (Ashley) Petro, Mikey (Dominique) Petro, Michelle, Marlana, Billy, Alexis Petro and Brandon Surack; great-grandchildren, Briella, Johnny W. III and Michael Petro, Brody and Skylar Munger, Gianna Thurik, Hayden Petro who all called her "GiGi."

Marlene is reunited with her husband, John Petro, whom she married July 2, 1949, and preceded her in death Sept. 21, 2011. Along with her husband, Marlene was preceded in death by her parents; six sisters, Betty Fabrizio, Cecil "Sis" Kaminski, Virginia Jean Gembar, Ruth Hanni, Rita Cerni and Delores Jane Schiffer; and four brothers, Martin, John, Joseph, Robert Fergus; and Infant grandson, Phillip Surack.

A Memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 7, 2026, at Holy Family Parish in Poland.

The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to Hospice of The Valley and Honey and Chrissy, for their loving and compassionate care and support. They were truly a blessing to the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Boardman, OH 44512.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of the Rossi Brothers and Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Ave., Boardman.
