POLAND -- John Shurilla passed away Thursday, Aug. 20, 2026, at University Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
John was born Dec. 30, 1964, in Youngstown, a son of John and Veronica Shurilla.
John was very skilled as a cabinet maker (he would have corrected you if you called him a carpenter), owning his business and becoming known as "The Cabinet Man" for 30 years. He built his family home in Poland, along with so many kitchens, basements and bathrooms over the years. Anyone who knew John said he was meticulous at his work, and there was never anything that he could not build or fix.
John was an avid fan of NASCAR and went regularly to the races every year. He loved bowling every Thursday and helping run the leagues. John was fortunate enough to roll a few 300 games over the years! He loved his Goldendoodle, Buck, who slept in bed with him every night and shared every meal together.
John leaves behind his loving wife of 35 years, Deborah Shurilla; two sons, Jonathan (Cara) Shurilla of Columbus and Jarret Shurilla of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He is also survived by three brothers, Christopher, David and James Shurilla; and one sister, Dr. Elaine Lewis. He also leaves an aunt, nieces, nephews, many cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Veronica; and his brother, Daniel.
A Mass will take place 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 24, 2026, at St. Angela Merici Parish, 397 S. Jackson St., Youngstown.
A luncheon will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Holy Family Parish Center for all to join.
Arrangements are entrusted to Staton-Borowski Funeral Home, 962 North Road NE, Warren, OH 44483, 330-394-6200.
