POLAND -- Jeanette Horvath of Poland passed away on Saturday, Aug. 15, 2026, at Hospice House, surrounded by her family.
She was a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend, and her presence will be deeply missed.
She was born April 24, 1938, in Smoky Hollow to John Patta, an Italian immigrant, and Anne Torisk Patta, a first-generation Italian American. She was the lone girl joining a household with four older brothers. Her family doted on her and loved to see her in fancy dresses, inspiring the lifelong nickname "Dolly."
Growing up, she formed lifelong friendships within a group known as "The Orchidette Eight," which later grew and became simply "The Club" in their adult years.
She was a Rayen High School graduate.
Family was always at the center of Jeanette's life. To her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she was affectionately known as "Nana," a role she embraced whole-heartedly.
She loved to cook for her family, and of course, that included Sunday sauce. Arguably, her most celebrated culinary endeavor was the elaborate cookie tables she orchestrated -- nearly singlehandedly -- for family weddings. Was a dozen cookies per person overkill? Jeanette's answer was a firm "No." Others might argue that her mother-in-law's "Pigs in a Blanket" (stuffed cabbage) or her Feast of the Seven Fishes deserved the title. Uncontested: She was a force in the kitchen.
She was a longtime, devoted member of St. Anthony Parish, where she volunteered her Easter bread-making skills and was a regular on the Novena circuit.
She loved walking, visiting with and comparing QVC purchases with her longtime friends and neighbors. Everyone who encountered her will miss her warmth and care.
She will be lovingly remembered by her three children, Patricia (John) Choppa, Kathleen (Terry) Russo and Richard (Pollyn) Horvath; four grandchildren, Julie (Michael) Exner, Christopher (Ashley) Russo, Ava Horvath and Olivia Horvath; three great-grandchildren, Ellie Exner, Luca Russo and Rocco Russo; her brother-in-law, James Horvath; sister-in-law, Maureen "Ditsu" Horvath; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years, Richard "Tati" Horvath, and her brothers, John (Pearl), Daniel (Helen) and Samuel (Dorothy).
The family wishes to thank nurses and staff at Hospice House and St. Elizabeth Boardman's fourth floor for the kindness and comfort they provided Jeanette.
Friends and family are welcome to join a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 21, at St. Anthony Church, 1125 Turin Ave., Youngstown.
