LIBERTY -- Ellen C. Hyland, 95, of Liberty Township, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2026, at home, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born May 3, 1931, in Youngstown, the daughter of Emmet and Winifred Kelley Casey.
Ellen was a graduate of Ursuline High School in Youngstown, and Ursuline College in Cleveland. A resilient woman whose love knew no bounds, Ellen was the true matriarch of her family and welcomed everyone with open arms.
A gifted storyteller blessed with years, Ellen told wonderfully vivid stories that were bountiful, historic and humorous. She wrote letters to a sister far away, filled with funny stories and the latest family news, all while raising seven children.
In addition to storytelling, Ellen was a passionate reader who loved art and music, tending to her garden and keeping up with current events.
Precious memories of Ellen live on with her two daughters, Aileen Cormier (Brad) and Kathleen Yatsko (John); five sons, Michael (Jennifer), Dr. John (Christine), Patrick (Jonnetta Vitale), Timothy (Julie), and Kevin Hyland; two granddaughters, Maura Yatsko, and Emily Hyland; five grandsons, Nicholas Cormier, Liam Yatsko, Aidan, Broghan, and Dr. Caelan Hyland; and her sister, Beth Kouttab.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her loving husband, Dr. John Arthur Hyland, whom she married June 19, 1954, and who passed Nov. 5, 1991; her sister, Edna Zaitzew; and her brother, Robert Casey.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2026, at St. Edward Catholic Church, 238 Tod Lane, Youngstown, OH 44504, with the Rev. Msgr. Robert Siffrin officiating. All who know and love Ellen are welcome to attend and honor her remarkable life.

The family would like to give special thanks to the exceptional staff at Liberty Arms Assisted Living, as well as to Hospice employees Candice, Sarah, and Missy.
Ellen lived beautifully and left this world with no regrets.
