Edward J. Champion 1927-2026

YOUNGSTOWN -- Edward J. Champion, 99, died Monday, Aug. 17, 2026, at Southern Care Hospice, surrounded by his family.

Edward was born April 5, 1927, in Wickliffe, a son of Joseph and Eloise Black Champion.

He served in the Navy during World War II and Korea and received the Pacific Theater Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Ribbon and Victory Medal.

He married Patricia Croyle on May 17, 1945.

Edward worked at U.S. Steel and then, later in life, worked in maintenance at Mill Creek Metro Parks until he retired.

He enjoyed camping with family and exploring flea markets. He loved a good bargain. He was very handy and could build or fix anything and was always glad to lend a hand helping others.

Edward leaves his son, Timothy (Missy) Champion of Youngstown; his brother, Gary (Dorie) Campion of Greenville, Pa.; his sister, Iris of Fort Myers, Florida; a daughter-in-law, Sandra Champion of North Jackson; a son-in-law, Bill Bevan of Fort Myers, Florida; 10 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. He loved his dogs Zack and Tabby; they were his everything.

Edward was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Patricia, who died May 10, 2005; three sons, Edward, Randy and Douglas; two daughters, Suzan Bevan and Cindy Swiger; son-in-law, Wayne Swiger; his grandson, Jason Swiger; two brothers, Don and Joseph; and two sisters, Laura and Geraldine.

Per Edward's wishes, there will be no services.
