YOUNGSTOWN -- Delores Shuluga passed away peacefully with family by her side on Thursday, Aug. 6, 2026, at Briarfield Place in Boardman. She was 95.
Delores, known to family and friends as "Dodie," was born July 23, 1931, in Campbell, in her grandmother's living room, a daughter of Matt Mrakovich and Julia George Mrakovich.
A lifelong area resident, Dodie was a 1949 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. She worked at Reichert's Furniture and Metal Carbides prior to becoming a homemaker.
On Aug. 17, 1957, Dodie married the love of her life, Paul M. Shuluga, and they shared almost 30 years together. He preceded her in death on April 19, 1985.
Dodie was an active member of Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church in Youngstown, where she served on the St. Anne's Guild, including as treasurer.
She loved cooking, cake decorating and baking and was famous especially for her clothespin cookies, pineapple squares and fudge. She also enjoyed sewing, bowling and polka music.
Dodie was a beloved mother and grandmother who devoted her life to her family. She enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren as they grew up and also enjoyed her "grandpets" immensely.
Dodie will be deeply missed and always remembered by her two daughters, Debbie (Tony) Torisk of Struthers and Sue (Ken) Bancroft of Austintown; two granddaughters, Emmalee Torisk (Jamison Cocklin) of Monroeville, Pa., and Olivia Torisk (Amiel Mercado) of Cleveland Heights; two brothers, Matthew (Andrea) Mrakovich of Austintown and Michael Mrakovich of Boardman; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members and friends, including Helen "Corky" Maley, who was very dear to her.
In addition to her husband, Dodie was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Julianne Kramer; and her in-laws, Joe and Stella Shuluga, and Yvonne and Joe Mudryk.
Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14, 2026, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown, where a prayer service will take place at 4:30 p.m. Friday.
Prayers will be offered at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, 2026, at the funeral home, followed by funeral services at 11 a.m. Saturday, at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church, 526 W. Rayen Ave., Youngstown.
Dodie will be laid to rest beside her husband in Green Haven Memorial Gardens, Canfield.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made in Dodie's name to Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church, 526 W. Rayen Ave., Youngstown, OH 44502; Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley, 1300 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Youngstown, OH 44510; or Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Mahoning District Council, P.O. Box 224, Youngstown, OH 44501.
The family would like to thank Dr. Santuccio Ricciardi, her doctor of more than 30 years, as well as the wonderful staff of Briarfield Place and Patriot Hospice.
