BOARDMAN -- It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Charles "Rick" Sunyog on Monday, Aug. 3, 2026, at the age of 70.
Born Nov. 1, 1955, Rick was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
Rick was born and raised in Boardman, Ohio, and graduated from Boardman High School.
Later in life, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Youngstown State University. He loved music and nature and found joy in photographing the beauty and wildlife of Mill Creek Park. A lifelong New York Yankees fan, Rick also took great pride in his home and his garden and, above all, he cherished his family.
Though a man of few words, Rick had a quick wit and a quiet sense of humor that brought smiles to those who knew him best.
He is survived by his wife, Laurie Palazzo Sunyog; his three children and their families, April Sunyog Craft and her husband, Benjamin Craft, Charles "Rick" Sunyog Jr. and his wife, Erica Lister Sunyog, and Brian Sunyog; his cherished grandson, Evan Sunyog; his brother, Stephen Sunyog; his sister, Cathy Sunyog Ciccone, and her husband, Mark Ciccone; and many loving nieces and nephews and dear friends.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Charles L. Sunyog and Wilma Rae Hosterman Sunyog.
Rick's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
May he rest in God's eternal peace.
Family and friends are welcome to attend a celebration of Rick's life from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, Aug. 14, 2026, at Rossi Brothers and Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Ave., Boardman.
A memorial service will immediately follow at noon.
